LOCATIONS

> LOCATIONS

While the moderators will make up their fair share of locations, we want everyone to feel comfortable exploring and expanding upon the world of Meadowlark. This page will never be definitive as it's meant to be player built more than mod built. We will include any major locations down below that we feel are necessary.

> LIMITATIONS

The only limitations in place in game involve any major corporations - either in New Amsterdam or the world as a whole. All of Meadowlark's fictional corporations factor into the game's greater worldbuild and need to be carefully monitored by the moderators.

Right now, the three big established corporations in New Amsterdam are Pulsar, Vyonation, and Giles Bell. While each of these companies are worldwide operations, their headquarters are in New Amsterdam itself. These are not the only corporations in Meadowlark's world, however.

If you have any suggestions or ideas for these corporations, as well as outlets for opportunities, please contact us on our PLOT ENGAGEMENT POST.

Otherwise, please keep our SETTING PAGE in mind when you comment here. If you introduce a new business, name a park, or even develop a new apartment complex, we want to make sure that it adheres to the limitations of our game. For example: coffee shops exist, but are extremely expensive and only found within high-scale areas like New Amsterdam's financial district. Apartment complexes will largely involve smaller units - anything larger would be out of the range of all of the characters' budgets.

We will only monitor this page for anything that doesn't adhere to the setting, and ask that someone resubmit according to the guidelines of the game itself.

Following our eighth event, characters opened up the world through a fast travel network. Since travel between New Amsterdam and other locations is now much quicker, we have opened up a section below to allow players to begin to create locations outside of New Amsterdam. Please refer to the Outside of New Amsterdam comment for some additional information.

DORADO
Location: A somewhat run down low-level part of the city, "Sporenburg".
Appearance: Roughly like this but more crowded. Never quite clean.
Other Important Notes: The beer's cold and the music loud. A good place for a drink and some bar food if you don't mind the gang members in the corner and possibly getting mugged in the alley out back.
cheffeur: (Default)

Let's Taco 'Bout It
Location: Anywhere it needs to be! Midday and evening, it can be found around commerce or residential sections, and at night, it mostly hangs around the cheap dive bars for any hungry drunk that wants some good cheap food.
Appearance: A small, hovering food truck, emblazoned with a cheerful taco on the side, and a speech bubble with the name of their business on it.
Other Important Notes: Run by an old citizen of New Amsterdam named Antonio, who just wants to travel the city and share his handmade tacos. The special is their "Pep Taco", a spicy blend of something that resembles chorizo, but is likely just made of locusts. There's also their fresh-made "Guac and Talk" guacamole, and "Nacho average food". Basically everything is a pun.

INERTIA
Location: Sketchy side of town in a cluster of hang-outs for the underground circuit, tucked away in an alley just off the bustling main drag.
Appearance: High-tech in a self-made and crafty way, with all its fixtures designed by individuals rather than the big corporations (take the fans, for instance, spinning above them with parts stripped from vehicles and recycling transports), Inertia is a bar with distinct style. Not glossy but sturdy and well-used. Music's never too loud, but the crowd's always boisterous. Visitors enjoy drinks (with top-notch beer and whiskey on tap) and play neural games at mismatched tables, with a private back room for serious gamblers.
Other Important Notes: Frequented by Hi-Jacks and other gang members, with folks from the fighting rings free to show-off their cybernetics in the low light. If you start a fight here, you’ll be tossed out on your arse by the private owner and regular barkeep, Valentina, as she doesn't tolerate threats to her venue. In exchange for discounts, the Hi-Jacks do maintenance and troubleshooting on the space for free.

DAM PINK POOL
Location: Away from the busy sector of the city in the neighboorhood of Lelylaan, this skate park can be found underground after a long flight of stairs underneath an apartment complex.
Appearance: Looking like any other skate park, this one boasts one singularity: the entirety of its flooring is a light shade of pink, disturbed only by graffiti and other painted designs by skaters and owners alike. It's underground, and indoors, which means it has lights on at all times, as the park is a public place and free for anyone to go in. Only hoverskates and hoverboards are allowed, so bring your own! (These images are for reference as we all know there be no wheels.) When it's nighttime, the whole place will go dark except for neon lights that will illuminate the place.
Other Important Notes: It's intended as a public place and a park, thus there is no need to pay to get in nor is there any kind of office or security or reception desk. The founders of the park trust those who want to skate will play fair and be cool about things. There's a plaque on one end of the skate park that houses a screen that flickers on and off with images and information: one sick neon-colored image from yore honoring a 21st century skateboarder, and information about "T. Hawk" and his iconic messages from an app long defunct. Those in charge of building the park had a rebellious sense of humor, as most residents of (New) Amsterdam have always had. The only other "useful" bit of information is on a scrolling LED text display around the plaque, seemingly a response to the usual question of "why pink?" It reads: IT WAS THE CHEAPEST PAINT AND IT HIDES THE BLOOD WHEN PEOPLE LAND ON THEIR FACE... :)

CUYP MARKT
Location: The market is found underground in an abandoned metro tunnel that has been closed off and repurposed, a couple of blocks away from the New Amsterdam train line.
Appearance: An open market, it has over 300 stalls lining both sides of the metro tunnel. Stalls from fruit to vegetables to bugs, cosmetics, bedding, robotic and organic (lizards, birds) pets, and any other accessory or scrap that could be sold for some use by others. Even haircuts and other services are provided, as well as refreshments and freshly made snacks. The place maintains a consistent temperature. Although it can get crowded very easily, this is something that happens usually on the weekends. Despite the variety of things found there, the place is 100% legal and every vendor has been registered with the government.
Other Important Notes: Cuyp Markt has gone through a lot of changes throughout the years. It began trading in 1904 and still exists to this day, although no longer existing above ground, but having moved locations due to the ever extreme changes in the city.

JOYPOLIS
Location: Smack dab in the middle of the city center.
Appearance: This VR arcade keeps it simple and clean for its users, relatively empty at first glance. However, all players can stand on the circular LED pads on each cubicle to connect to the VR game experience of choice. VR headsets help with the immersion (mostly for sound/music). Props are offered, such as guns, fishing poles, or vehicle-like stand-ins to make the games more immersive and realistic. VR crane machines are also available! The screen will light up whenever a player walks by, and they control the crane for their digital attempts at winning something.
Other Important Notes: Once "connected" to the VR games, the players get an interactive menu appear before them wherein they can choose which game they wish to play. They can even connect to multiplayer mode through one of the options. Payment is done automatically once the game is chosen. Any rewards or credits are saved in the 'online cloud' and can be exchanged for prizes at the gift shop. This also goes for the VR crane games--collect at the register, please!

HUP FRIES HUP
Location: A window-only shop that seems out of place, stuck between two buildings, amidst restaurants and bars.
Appearance: When the inconspicuous shutters open up, one is greeted by a small kitchenette manned by three people. At the front dealing with the sales, an older, friendly woman deals with the orders while two young employees (twins, a boy and a girl with similar unenthused expressions) put together the orders. The place looks spectacularly clean and neat.
Other Important Notes: While this snackbar hasn't implied anything, citizens of New Amsterdam say that it has the absolute best fries in the city. The prices are cheap (3,50 on average), the portions plenty, and there's great variety of sauces (peanut sauce; mayonnaise, curry ketchup, onions; a mixture of mayonnaise, ketchup, and spices; cheese sauce; mayonnaise). Drinks are also sold to go along with the fries. The snackbar opens up late in the mornings and closes soon as they run out of fries. There's usually a cue whenever the shutters are up.

BEETLEBORG
Location: Away from the busy center, where the streets become more narrow and subject to additions by necessity of the residents and owners than any real government-related attempt at remodeling. The neighborhood is a series of small human-built stalls and stores that maintain the essence of the culture of those who migrated into New Amsterdam from the East.
Appearance: The outside appearance passes off as nothing too remarkable. Knowing what narrow door to walk in through, however, leads to a small but opulent tea room very particular guests have the invite to. With the right connections, one could get an invite inside, too.
Other Important Notes: A restaurant on the outside, a gambling room on the inside. This tea room offers the comfort of tea alongside gambling... with robot beetles. The bids go high, the robots are constantly upgraded and repaired, and it's more than likely that there's more than just beetle battle gambling going down, but who is to tell?

GROUND ZERO GYM
Location: Franchises spread about different areas and corners of the city, mostly where it's busy and people are constantly walking by. The biggest location (1) is underground, its entrance a couple of feet away from the passenger station, while others can be found atop delis, jammed between businesses, or wherever else a gym could be logically found at.
Appearance: The gyms look like expensive boutiques, black walls, flooring, and interiors highlighted by rainbow-colored lights. Music thumps through the speakers 24/7, the place giving a sense of isolation for its members. Nevertheless, there are areas for group training sessions. Snack bars and standard locker rooms can also be found within the gyms. In it's biggest location, one could even enjoy the benefits of using an indoor pool--if the membership rank is high enough. Depending on the gym one attends, one could be met with a single-floor plan or several floors of rooms and areas for working out.
Other Important Notes: The gym is available for all citizens as there are several memberships with different price ranges, and thus what is available depends on what one would pay. A membership paid for at one location opens the doors to use any other gym locale throughout the city.

AIR
Location: In the busiest part of the city where a number of clubs reside walking distance from each other, in Brandt Square.
Appearance: The outside boasts a rather striking entry area. The inside is small but packs a bit of a crowd, lights and setup changing every night.
Other Important Notes: AIR opens from Thursdays to Sundays, from 11:30PM to 4AM. Music varies per night, from electronica to hard dubstep to a mix of both and all. It all depends on the DJ taking charge.

VESPER
Location: Also located in the Brandt Square, closer to the edges of the area.
Appearance: The nightclub VESPER looks considerably toned down from the outside, but inside, the place explodes with colors, lights, strange architecture choices, and spontaneous wall art. It boasts of a balcony on the second floor, where one can also get their drinks from. All the way in the back, the DJ puts forth their musical talent.
Other Important Notes: What makes VESPER different from other nightclubs is that it's a gay bar, although not exclusively. All people can go in and enjoy a night of dance and music. The DJs are more on the amateur kind, most nights, although famous guests are booked every now and then.

OSH PAVILLION
Location: To the west, where the city opens up to allow for more room between buildings and there's less concentration of apartment complexes. A plaza gives way only for pedestrian transit and the occasional hoverboard.
Appearance: It can be as elaborate as a light show or a proper stage would allow. Depending on the event, it can have a ceiling set up.
Other Important Notes: This open venue has been adopted primarily for live music events, both during the day and night, with popular bands and unknown musicians alike. Walking through the plaza, one may find a single electric violin player hooked to speakers trying to make a living -- or simply trying to entertain a crowd with music. Other times, full-fledged bands will perform without much advertising or warning, collecting their instruments just as quickly and disappearing into the streets. As an onlooker, one is encouraged to sit around and hang out with the crowd to enjoy whatever show is available. It is all free of charge, an attempt to keep the New Amsterdam culture (and cultures) alive within the city.

ECRU
Location: Right around the corner of the New Amsterdam passenger train station.
Appearance: A small operation, Ecru is actually a panini shop. One does not go in, but merely orders the food and waits for their order to get served. Drinks are also available, extremely cheap sandwiches of all flavors imaginable (sweet and sour, spicy, bug and bug-free). In contrast, they also sell coffee, but it is exceedingly expensive and are happy to offer a cheaper alternative that hardly tastes like coffee at all. Something about blending seaweed with spices.
Other Important Notes: If you want to get the full restaurant experience? Feel free to sit on the stools by the basket, thanks.
