LOCATIONS

> LOCATIONS

While the moderators will make up their fair share of locations, we want everyone to feel comfortable exploring and expanding upon the world of Meadowlark. This page will never be definitive as it's meant to be player built more than mod built. We will include any major locations down below that we feel are necessary.

> LIMITATIONS

The only limitations in place in game involve any major corporations - either in New Amsterdam or the world as a whole. All of Meadowlark's fictional corporations factor into the game's greater worldbuild and need to be carefully monitored by the moderators.

Right now, the three big established corporations in New Amsterdam are Pulsar, Vyonation, and Giles Bell. While each of these companies are worldwide operations, their headquarters are in New Amsterdam itself. These are not the only corporations in Meadowlark's world, however.

If you have any suggestions or ideas for these corporations, as well as outlets for opportunities, please contact us on our PLOT ENGAGEMENT POST.

Otherwise, please keep our SETTING PAGE in mind when you comment here. If you introduce a new business, name a park, or even develop a new apartment complex, we want to make sure that it adheres to the limitations of our game. For example: coffee shops exist, but are extremely expensive and only found within high-scale areas like New Amsterdam's financial district. Apartment complexes will largely involve smaller units - anything larger would be out of the range of all of the characters' budgets.

We will only monitor this page for anything that doesn't adhere to the setting, and ask that someone resubmit according to the guidelines of the game itself.

Following our eighth event, characters opened up the world through a fast travel network. Since travel between New Amsterdam and other locations is now much quicker, we have opened up a section below to allow players to begin to create locations outside of New Amsterdam. Please refer to the Outside of New Amsterdam comment for some additional information.

OSH PAVILLION
Location: To the west, where the city opens up to allow for more room between buildings and there's less concentration of apartment complexes. A plaza gives way only for pedestrian transit and the occasional hoverboard.
Appearance: It can be as elaborate as a light show or a proper stage would allow. Depending on the event, it can have a ceiling set up.
Other Important Notes: This open venue has been adopted primarily for live music events, both during the day and night, with popular bands and unknown musicians alike. Walking through the plaza, one may find a single electric violin player hooked to speakers trying to make a living -- or simply trying to entertain a crowd with music. Other times, full-fledged bands will perform without much advertising or warning, collecting their instruments just as quickly and disappearing into the streets. As an onlooker, one is encouraged to sit around and hang out with the crowd to enjoy whatever show is available. It is all free of charge, an attempt to keep the New Amsterdam culture (and cultures) alive within the city.

10NE
Location: Tucked away in the northern part of the arts and cultural district. Neighbors other smaller galleries, and always garnering plenty of foot traffic in the area. A fairly nice part of town.
Appearance: 10Ne (aka "Neon") is a gallery/studio with a focus on luminescent art. While there are plenty of permanent neon light fixtures installed, it isn’t only restricted to its namesake. Local artists often display a myriad of bright and eye-catching pieces, and the gallery itself rotates out new displays on a monthly basis. Always darkly lit, so that the art can really shine!
Other Important Notes: The studio portion exists in the back of the building, and can be utilized by any up-and-coming artist interested in working with neon/light art for a small fee.

LILLY&MOKI
Location: About 10 minutes walk down from 10Ne, in the arts and cultural district.
Appearance: Dealing primarily in minimalist art / simple sculptures and other assorted installations, Lilly & Moki has plenty of space for local artists to showcase their works. The interior is mainly simple, with plain walls and floor and lots of natural light enhanced by strategic hidden lighting. There are some permanent pieces in the foyer/entrance but a lot of the works housed within are rotated and available for purchase.
Other Important Notes: The gallery owners are very big on holding events and art classes within the gallery space. All the events are by appointment with sign up schedules opening every first sunday for the following month, and the slots never stay empty for long. They do charge a small fee for this, but Moki provides homemade goods and refreshments and participates in classes herself.

HET BOZE OOG
Location: Looming over the southernmost part of the city.
Appearance: This art exhibit ("The Angry Eye") overlooks several tall buildings. It windows of colors change throughout the day, and their movement/rotation is never quite the same. It's simply a tall work of art, using LED lights and engineering ingenuity, taking a spin away from the more modern efforts of holograms and digital work.
Other Important Notes: It is simply an artistic venture, and although one simply goes out in public to admire it, it does have the impression of being watched by an angry entity. Who says art can't express feeling?

NIEUWE TEYLERS MUSEUM
Location: The older, central part of the arts & cultural district.
Appearance: Unsurprisingly, a very futuristic architecture, with a rooftop gallery for more transient and modern sculpture exhibits. It's relatively small for a city of this size, given the small amount of phsyical pieces that have survived this long outside of private collections. There is an entire floor of the museum dedicated to VR replicas of pieces, and interactive hologram simulations.
Other Important Notes: This museum dedicates a great deal of time, effort, and budget to social galas for several reasons: to raise funds from donors and patrons; to schmooze prospective donors and patrons to share their private collections; and to give said donors and patrons an occasion to showcase their philanthropy and cultural stewardship. There's usually at least one or two grand fetes per year which are well covered by the society news.

New Amsterdam Museum of Architecture
Location: Nearly the westernmost part of the city
Appearance: It's kind of a hidden gem, being squat and easily overlooked thanks to the skyscrapers that surround it. The only thing that draws the eye is its unusually shaped entrance
Other Important Notes: The interior is a variety of interesting historical architecture exhibits, with instillations for many culturally significant (now destroyed) building interiors. Installments are connected with creative passageways, giving it a labyrinthian feel at times. It is NOWHERE NEAR as large as it seems — the museum makes use of VR/holographic projection technology to add depth and detail where there simply isn't room for it to actually exist. Be careful where you walk, if you trail off the designated walkways you will very likely run face first into a wall.
