LOCATIONS

> LOCATIONS

While the moderators will make up their fair share of locations, we want everyone to feel comfortable exploring and expanding upon the world of Meadowlark. This page will never be definitive as it's meant to be player built more than mod built. We will include any major locations down below that we feel are necessary.

> LIMITATIONS

The only limitations in place in game involve any major corporations - either in New Amsterdam or the world as a whole. All of Meadowlark's fictional corporations factor into the game's greater worldbuild and need to be carefully monitored by the moderators.

Right now, the three big established corporations in New Amsterdam are Pulsar, Vyonation, and Giles Bell. While each of these companies are worldwide operations, their headquarters are in New Amsterdam itself. These are not the only corporations in Meadowlark's world, however.

If you have any suggestions or ideas for these corporations, as well as outlets for opportunities, please contact us on our PLOT ENGAGEMENT POST.

Otherwise, please keep our SETTING PAGE in mind when you comment here. If you introduce a new business, name a park, or even develop a new apartment complex, we want to make sure that it adheres to the limitations of our game. For example: coffee shops exist, but are extremely expensive and only found within high-scale areas like New Amsterdam's financial district. Apartment complexes will largely involve smaller units - anything larger would be out of the range of all of the characters' budgets.

We will only monitor this page for anything that doesn't adhere to the setting, and ask that someone resubmit according to the guidelines of the game itself.

Following our eighth event, characters opened up the world through a fast travel network. Since travel between New Amsterdam and other locations is now much quicker, we have opened up a section below to allow players to begin to create locations outside of New Amsterdam. Please refer to the Outside of New Amsterdam comment for some additional information.

DAM PINK POOL
Location: Away from the busy sector of the city in the neighboorhood of Lelylaan, this skate park can be found underground after a long flight of stairs underneath an apartment complex.
Appearance: Looking like any other skate park, this one boasts one singularity: the entirety of its flooring is a light shade of pink, disturbed only by graffiti and other painted designs by skaters and owners alike. It's underground, and indoors, which means it has lights on at all times, as the park is a public place and free for anyone to go in. Only hoverskates and hoverboards are allowed, so bring your own! (These images are for reference as we all know there be no wheels.) When it's nighttime, the whole place will go dark except for neon lights that will illuminate the place.
Other Important Notes: It's intended as a public place and a park, thus there is no need to pay to get in nor is there any kind of office or security or reception desk. The founders of the park trust those who want to skate will play fair and be cool about things. There's a plaque on one end of the skate park that houses a screen that flickers on and off with images and information: one sick neon-colored image from yore honoring a 21st century skateboarder, and information about "T. Hawk" and his iconic messages from an app long defunct. Those in charge of building the park had a rebellious sense of humor, as most residents of (New) Amsterdam have always had. The only other "useful" bit of information is on a scrolling LED text display around the plaque, seemingly a response to the usual question of "why pink?" It reads: IT WAS THE CHEAPEST PAINT AND IT HIDES THE BLOOD WHEN PEOPLE LAND ON THEIR FACE... :)

JOYPOLIS
Location: Smack dab in the middle of the city center.
Appearance: This VR arcade keeps it simple and clean for its users, relatively empty at first glance. However, all players can stand on the circular LED pads on each cubicle to connect to the VR game experience of choice. VR headsets help with the immersion (mostly for sound/music). Props are offered, such as guns, fishing poles, or vehicle-like stand-ins to make the games more immersive and realistic. VR crane machines are also available! The screen will light up whenever a player walks by, and they control the crane for their digital attempts at winning something.
Other Important Notes: Once "connected" to the VR games, the players get an interactive menu appear before them wherein they can choose which game they wish to play. They can even connect to multiplayer mode through one of the options. Payment is done automatically once the game is chosen. Any rewards or credits are saved in the 'online cloud' and can be exchanged for prizes at the gift shop. This also goes for the VR crane games--collect at the register, please!

SUNPEAK GARDEN
Location: Located in Frederik's Plaza, far from the busier sectors of the city, where buildings give room to an open area that houses this botanical garden.
Appearance: From the outside it looks like any other botanical garden, the architecture inspired in models from past generations. Inside, the gardens boast of many trees and flowers, with pathways adorned with statues and other more artistic elements implemented on the envisioned location. Ponds with superbly large plants can be found, too, the water recycled and managed most strictly during the intense summer months.
Other Important Notes: The garden was inspired and designed by that of the 21st century, the architect in charge wishing to bring forward a touch of the olden day's simplicity and art into the modern world.

JACOBY PARK
Location: A skypark ten minutes walk away from the art district. Good views, with a lot of trees.
Appearance: A loud splash of nature in the heart of New Amsterdam. Despite all the festivals that happen in the city, Jacoby Park is never available for these events, which likely helps maintain how pretty it is.
Other Important Notes: Rumor has it that the park is privately owned by one of the many entrepreneurs in the city, but no one knows for sure. What they do know is that there are city ordinances that say that no parties, events, concerts, or anything else can happen in the park. It's meant to be a quiet location.

VERTMAR GARDENS
Location: West of the city, either in/around Bloem District.
Appearance: a moderately-sized glass/greenhouse, it houses a couple of 'rooms' divided into different themed flora. it also has an outdoor garden with room for sculpture/installation art to be set up on hire, as well as a small lake
Other Important Notes: It is free to enter the grounds with optional donations, and oftentimes they will have some events going on within one of the rooms that you would pay to enter. The outdoor garden has space to hire out for events / parties!

THE VELVET HALO
Location: Out in the East end of the city, only a few blocks away from the Red Light district.
Appearance: The casino boasts a cutting edge interior meant to mimic the atmosphere of a posh hotel with the aesthetics of a nightclub. It was designed by the notorious fashionista Belle Aubuchon who harbours reaching ambitions to venture into architecture. As a result the casino has a slew of trendy elements that are reminiscent of the designs found in the high fashion world.
Other Important Notes: This casino specializes in games of chance that do not incorporate AI dealers and is currently the hottest spot to play the latest gambling craze: 7R1X. The casino has discreet ties to the Petrov crime family.

NA'DAM Lookout
Location: At the north side of the city center where it can provide a scenic view of the surroundings.
Appearance: An observation deck and entertainment center at the top of the NA'DAM Tower. The tower itself is largely a mix of various offices for various businesses. The top two floors are set aside aside for a restaurant and bar with stunning panoramic views, indoor and outdoor observation decks, VR systems highlighting information about the various viewpoints, fun photo opportunities, and a daring swing on the sky deck that hangs over the edge. A popular location for dates.
Other Important Notes: The admission fee is fairly inexpensive and often packaged with other popular date activities in the city at discount pricing. Reportedly the name and attractions comes from a previous tower in old Amsterdam.

GRACHTEN HOTEL AND CASINO
Location: The edges of the city center
Appearance: Grachten Casino is old and luxurious, frequented as much for spas and concerts as for floor gambling. The interior designer opted for a gaudy old-world style for the decorations, which despite all the money clearly made and invested in this casino, is a little kitschy and tacky for where it's at in New Amsterdam. It gives it the feeling of being a floating liminal space, perfect for escapism. All of the gambling machines, from slots to blackjack to races, utilize AR. There are also costly VR arcade games to be found here, many of them with in-game gamble purchases. Notably, there is no prostitution permitted within the premises.
Other Important Notes: For a place that seems a hive of shady things, it's surprisingly infrequently pinned for any funny business. Too clean for its business.
