What is Plot Engagement and how does it work within Meadowlark? This is the page where players can come discuss with us how to facilitate plots within the setting. However, there will be occasions where a plot doesn't work within Meadowlark's world, and we'll suggest alternative routes. PLOT ENGAGEMENT INCLUDES

◉ Player plots! If you'd like your character to become a mafia boss, this is your place to start. Typically, this involves anything that could impact the setting or other player characters.

thank you for the head start!

as far as daisy's NDA is concerned, she would be more than willing to sign (and would be gracious in doing so). she would, however, be very curious to see if vyonation indicated their discovery of the bug in her manager's office — oocly, i know that the major bugs were swept, though the one in gill-jade's home was not, so i wasn't sure whether the manager's was or not. if the bug in her manager's office was not found, she would volunteer that information as a way to show good faith, and as explanation, daisy would share that her background in digital securities had taught her to find loopholes others might exploit for more nefarious/selfish reasons, and that her instincts had told her something questionable was possibly going on behind closed doors that vyonation might not approve of. (sort of in the lines of "i was just looking out for the team", full i-drank-the-koolaid style.)

she would also, if asked, be more than willing to rat out her direct manager, including spying on him at home. :)

as far as her project is concerned, daisy would be thrilled at the opportunity to branch out from her regular day-job, and would be excited to work the overtime necessary to get it done. her intention is to utilize existing vyonation tech in a new way, repurposing it with some "vintage" coding from her rising tide days to stand out from the 2511 schools of thought. i'd been playing with this idea as daisy hearing from her tech-savvy npc coworkers and friends about a new concept being investigated by one of vyonation's rivals, one that's in testing now but wouldn't be ready to hit market for some time due to developing all new technologies. her intention of using the existing vyonation tech would cut down on manufacturing and other timelines, allowing the company to possibly undercut the competition without incurring major expenses.

of course, i'm neither a tech genius nor a manufacturing whiz, so this may not be possible at all -- but if it is, i thought it would be a nice way to combine daisy's displaced power (of superrecycling resource management) and her technical knowhow in coding/hacking/securities together.

i expect this would take her approximately 2 ic weeks to put together, so submitting it to the cso around december 8, give or take a day or two depending on the boss man's schedule?

hi mods! a couple quick questions for you off of this thread with clarke!

› if daisy was to future!google the longitude & latitude clarke provides, would the building or specific location provided come up with anything specific? if it's a specific building, would she be able to find out any interesting details about it (the ownership, what kind of business is done there if any, urban legends, etc)?
› if i'm remembering correctly, facial recognition technology is already deployed in new amsterdam, and would likely fall under vyonation's purview. if daisy tried to pull a search using vyonation resources to match the face clarke draws to a name, would she be successful? would this set off any flags at work or cause any repercussions for her?
› also, not totally related to this thread but something i've wondered about for a while: how feasible is leisure travel for the displaced? is it "plane tickets might be 100 bucks or 300 bucks depending on when you buy" expensive, or is it "save up your whole life for a week in fiji" expensive? do you need a visa to go from megacity to megacity? what kind of processes are there -- for example, do you have to have an interview with customs & border control to "declare intent", or can you simply buy a ticket and show your passport at the border? (if i'm missing info that's already posted somewhere, my apologies!)

Hi Emma!

1. Finding someone who'd help her wouldn't be too hard, but they would have questions of their own if she were to provide them with foreign biological materials that aren't readily found in the city. They'd want to know how she got it, and what she wants to know about it. Without answers, she'll find her coworkers wary and unwilling. She might get a better response from someone like Bobbi, who can run the tests without any probing questions that Jyn might get from some of her coworkers. Let us know what route you decide to take here, as it may affect both her position in the company and questions that might arise from the samples.

2. The samples of the golden-eyed animals would come back as inconclusive. There would be a mixture of several different kinds of animals: snakes, marmosets, canine and mammalian and reptilian DNA that should not normally mix the way that it seems to be mixing. All of the samples showed signs of DNA degradation. Beyond DNA, please let us know if there's any other tests she'd like to run.

In order!

1. Riverstone does have some limited production in New Amsterdam. They have subsidiaries dedicated to set production, special effects, and some cybernetic advancement (due to the local production and placement of Giles Bell). Rey will be taking a job with Riverstone's cybernetics group soon! Let us know if this doesn't work out as an in for you, and we'll see about giving you another way in.

2. We believe you've seen the New Oslo thing! This will be an open player plot for everyone to go, and from what we know, this will be the case for all of the four gate locations that were covered here. This will probably be handled in September when it's not an event month!

3. The worldwide explanation is there an earthquake along a fault line that had been inactive, but had been made active all at once on that date. The power outages lasted a few days, but it was definitely a direct result of the seismic activity. However, given the range of the cities, it may seem unlikely that a single fault line could be responsible for this massive disruption! Some conspiracy theory sites were quick to point this out, but they never got much traction with their theories.

4. It takes 24 hours to heal most injuries in a medi-unit, even something as life-changing as a spine injury!

5. In terms of getting medical records, he'll likely have more success in greasing the wheels with someone who works a desk at a hospital than hacking in himself. These workers would have permissions to access records both in New Amsterdam and in other cities, as records often need to be transferred between cities! Since all records are digital, this would prove easier in some ways - but a hacker could definitely get in! They would just need to identify where to hack and how to get onto those particular servers. Both of these would come with their own risks, so it's up to Cassian to decide which one works best for him.

Hi Jenna!

Yes, the bug in her manager's office would have been swept! Any bugs that were found on Vyonation property would've been pinpointed and purged. Vyonation's CSO – Xander Tagore – would be unconcerned with the exploits of Geoff Bozos, and seem to only tolerate Daisy's explanations at a cost for time. He doesn't seem to take Geoff as much of a threat, and would follow up with Daisy to ask why she has these suspicions. She'd better think this one through before she answers! Tagore is a notoriously tough nut to crack, and has a no tolerance for lost time. He'd be more interested in the completion of her independent project than the potential dirt on Geoff.

The project itself will receive some harsh criticism. Xander will be quick to point out the security flaws of using a vintage system, and the potential incompatibility issues that they may run into upon delivery. He'll push that Vyonation is about driving forward, not taking steps back. While not disapproving, Xander will be firm, and he'll show no mercy in exposing potential security holes. He'll be watching how she takes the criticism. At the end he'll say that the idea is there, but the application will need to be different. He'll want to see the "vintage" code used for patterns, rather than application, to potentially boost the current security algorithms. He'll want it on his desk in a week – meaning the 15th – giving her a crunch time to accomplish the task.

All of this sounds good!

As for her Riverstone work, she wouldn't be working on the implants themselves, but ensuring that the cybernetics and the implants are compatible. There would, for instance, be points in time where production is slowed because they ran into a conflict with new Giles Bell technology, and they may have a lot of downtime. The reason why their cybernetic production is done in New Amsterdam is partly to speed up this process, but they still hit delays given the highly sensitive nature of it. During these downtimes, engineers are recommended to be creative and think outside the box - but it's generally understood that they may be getting paid to watch the 2511 version of Netflix when this happens.

i think jyn would stick with her coworkers for the animals only, because a decent number of them had come through after the emp and that isn't actually suspish, they're literally just out there in the street! jyn would explain she is curious about what kind of animals can survive out there when it's generally uninhabited to protect the forests and farmland and concerned they may pose a threat to the carefully cultivated crops out there. what if they eat the chocolate plants! she wouldn't want to alienate her coworkers or arise suspicion so she would be as careful as possible to assuage any concerns they may have about where these animals came from (the park, they've been trickling in these past few weeks, hopefully they've found the hole they've come through) because she really likes her job and wants to keep it.

clarke has mentioned bobbi (as katelin) a number of times so she would take the rest to them to bobbi (as katelin) once she has the basic dna information about the animals since those samples sound Weird. i will get that rolling soon!

on that vein, ha!, jyn will request bobbi (as katelin) test the blood, water, and soil samples for radiation, as well as testing everything to see if there is a similar marker in all the samples that may explain the weird gross evolution of the animals or one thing that ties all the animals together based on a harebrained theory that the animals came to the city as a biological imperative like sea turtles naturally going to the sea once they're born.

my basis of science is jurassic park so i'm winging all this if you cannot tell, anything she does or does not find would be neato.

transitioning from practical applications to pattern recognition would be a natural and much easier coding challenge for her. canonly, coulson put her in charge of the clairvoyant mission as a brand-new agent specifically because she "sees things in unique ways". as a fun little aside, it's theorized, while not confirmed, that daisy's
kree heritage (and subsequent boost from gh.325) gives her an inherent advantage at pattern recognition as well!

she would take the full week to tweak the code and patch any security holes noted in their conversation, but she wouldn't necessarily need it. this time, the project feels much more like an extension of herself — her own inherent skills brought to light — and she'd feel much more confident in what she had to deliver.

As a quick reminder - even if a moderator is playing in the thread, please make sure to summarize the contents in the future! That makes it easier for us to find relevant information. Thanks!

1. It would go right to the center of New Oslo, as described. There is nothing significant at that location but a large shopping mall that towers over most of the city. Nothing about this location gives off any indication of being related to the shrines, either on social media or otherwise. It does seem like it's just zeroing in on the city itself.

2. It is deployed, but an employee like Daisy wouldn't have access to the databases for this information. Much of this is either sent through the UN and local police forces, and what's on file for Daisy in Vyonation would be out of reach because she lacks the permissions. Of course, that doesn't mean it's completely out of reach! She's savvy enough to dig in as needed, and Vyonation's databases are undoubtedly more familiar to her. The problem is that her work with the CSO will mean that any of her activity within Vyonation servers is being tracked, so she may need to be creative about how she goes about this! She'll need a good story about why she's looking this guy up. We'll need to know what that is, and it'll factor into her plot with the CSO.

She is capable of finding him, however! We just need to know if you'd like to proceed given its ramifications on your other plot. Let us know!

3. This is a great question, and one we're looking to clarify with our setting update! But here's an explanation with some in-world examples to hopefully help it make sense:

Travel is the equivalent of a train ride between cities today, if not a little cheaper. No one needs to have a Visa to travel unless they are looking to relocate, and then it's likely far easier than it would be today. After all, the United Nations does preside over the entire world. (As a note: space travel is far more expensive and impractical for a large variety of reasons.) Normally, a passport is more than sufficient. The only times there are travel restrictions are during times of crises. We believe that some wires got crossed before with the travel to New Tokyo. Typically, travel would not be sanctioned to a city like New Tokyo after it's been devastated by monster attacks (or any other kinds of attacks), and that's why it wasn't as difficult to return from New Tokyo as it could have been.

There is no need to schedule an interview unless a city is in crisis, and these interviews are typically managed by people in charge of relief organizations like PRESERVE. Again, this will change if someone wants to go somewhere that's experiencing problems. As a note, travel out of New Amsterdam is restricted until the end of December because of the effects of the EMP.

Finally, all they need to do is declare at the border. The thing is, when they declare with their passport there, they're expected to show up at their destination at the expected time. People who don't do that are considered to be AWOL and ignoring border control policies (though, like with the recent return from New Prague, there may be some AI-behind-the-scenes to make things go more smoothly). Travel is carefully restricted so people don't go joyriding in the areas between cities. They are very paranoid about the condition of their planet, perhaps even more so now.

Hey Jenna! Sorry for the delay on this!

Caroline would be seen as a major threat to the underground community. Primarily, Caroline's seen as a bit of a monster for what she accomplished in there and how she managed to get free. Some of the gangs would come to revere her for her prowess (strength earns respect, after all), while others would want her dead. All of this would become immensely complicated thanks to Jason's interference and the success of that interference. What sentiments were in place are now being mired in uncertainty - what focus they had is now put elsewhere. Gangs are trying to recoup and make sure they don't find themselves in an unfortunate predicament.

In time, Caroline may start getting offers at various events. The mafia families would love to employ her services as an enforcer.

Meanwhile, it's safe to say that Jason would end up being able to get his hands on Marcos' blood. It's not as if the gangs know what to do with that. What chemists they have are trying to create drugs from monster parts without lasting (read: permanent) effects. So, it eventually sliding across Jason's desk? Probable.

In the meantime, such a major shakeup in the community will mean that Marcos and Caroline don't need to stay in hiding. They'll find few people on their tails before long. The people of the brothels will probably have some intel to help them know when the coast is clear. (For the most part, the brothels keep out of the crime scene because they don't want to give any lawmakers reason to create legislation against them.)

Hi mods, I have a few questions re: Kylo’s eventual return to New Amsterdam, Rey in tow.

›new job; he vanished shortly after the Fischer incident and would, I assume, have likely lost his job as a courier as a result. I would like to eventually get him involved in private security (as a bodyguard, for instance; I figured it might be a way to get him involved in the political sphere eventually without actually having to go the traditional politics route) but was thinking I would start him out in something a little simpler, like working at a gym. Possibly teaching some self-defense classes somewhere slightly more upmarket – though I am also willing to have him start in a smaller and work a bit before he can get his swankier gym job, as well. But what I wanted to know here is:

1. Is getting a job at a gym (any gym) feasible for him; if so, what kind of options does he have in terms of places looking and if he’d need to tick any particular boxes.
2. If yes, would he be able to eventually use this as a springboard for security work. The scenario I think of, off-hand, is he spends some time teaching kids how to defend themselves, and one of the parents decides that he knows what he’s doing and has a good rapport with the kids, maybe he’d like to do some weekend work or something? Idk idk. This is just what came to mind, off-hand.
3. If he can’t use the gym job, are there other avenues he could explore to eventually get into that kind of work (security) and which would be the most feasible for him, as he is.

›illegal racing; so, I was running with the idea that when he was working as a courier, Kylo had been a fairly solid employee: fast, reliable. He was also taking the occasional illegal job on the side.

1. Would it be feasible to assume that he might have gotten enough notice to have been informed about/offered an opportunity to race in the street races? This is less about wanting him to become a racer than assuming that he would have an idea of where the races are typically had, who is involved etc.
2. Which gangs are involved in racing, specifically. Do the races have fixed locations or do they change? How does one typically find out where the next race would be held?
3. How much money could a racer conceivably make? How much could you make betting off a race?
4. Is it a full time commitment or could you feasibly have a day job and just race occasionally? Would you need some kind of backer or sponsor?

› legal racing; I saw in a previous comment that you mentioned that one of the ways you can be recruited for legal racing is through VR racing?

1. What are some of the popular VR racing games available? Are these games you could encounter in any standard arcade/VR parlour?
2. What is the typical process for being recruited into the VR racing circuit? Would this be different for bikes versus cars or the same?
3. How long would it take to really distinguish yourself?

› gaming; just some miscellaneous questions since I want to try dig more into Kylo’s hobby and this really interests me, so:

1. Who are the big game companies? Are there just these or do you get smaller, indie companies as well?
2. What are the big games? Are there specific genres in favor right now?
3. What kind of equipment would a serious VR gamer be expected to have at their home? Like, idk. A home version of the vr set ups you’d find in an arcade. How much would something like that generally cost you?
4. What sort of cons are there? I know we had the Anime Con earlier this year but what are the other big events for gaming/general nerdery.

With all the out-of-town athletes coming in, I was wondering it if it would be possible for Sniper to establish out-of-town clients. Is this do-able, or would the cost of travel be too prohibitive for an athlete to afford to pay for the occasional trip?

If it is possible, Sniper will look for connections in New Cairo and New Beijing.

Hi Emma!

Just to clarify, the suspicious nature of the tests wouldn't necessarily be from the animal samples themselves, but that Jyn wants the tests at all. Her current position within a geological department doesn't necessarily call for biological samples, and so her colleagues wouldn't exactly know the answer – only some semblance on what department to point her to. They will be confused, though, as there are already careful agricultural counter-measures in place to keep wildlife away from the select few crops that are grown on the land outside of the megacities, and not many are grown outside of New Amsterdam.

As for the rest of the samples tested by Bobbi, they'll get the DNA results back, but Bobbi will not have the resources to test for any physical determination of migratory patterns. This is a cool idea, but we would suggest that you may want to approach it from a different angle. With the current resources available for the physical tests from samples, there wouldn't be anything that would allow for the direction that Jyn wants to go. Looking into animal behavior specialists in that regard may help her out!

She does, however, now have clearance to meet with him when she has a pitch or an independent project she'd like to work on. (His personal assistant will definitely let her by!) What she does with it from there is up to her.

1. It's definitely feasible. There are a lot of gyms around the city, so we'll leave this part up to you! Please feel free to make up any locations you might enjoy in game - our players are just as much creators of our world as we are!

2. This is unfortunately unlikely! He would have a better shot of signing up as a security guard and trying to get some experience there, or looking into being a bouncer. Working at a gym is likely not going to make Kylo stand out as someone as being interested in private security.

3. See question two! We think we covered it there, but let us know if you need to know more!

illegal racing

As a note, bear in mind that, as far as we know, Kylo doesn't have a vehicle with the means to race. If he's taken too long to take up someone on their offer to race, he may not have one. Feel free to correct us if our understanding is wrong!

1. It depends largely on if "fast and reliable" means "looks like a good driver." We're going to assume it does - and if so, then yes! He won't know as much about the inner workings so much as when they tend to happen and how he can know where to show up. Like the fighting rings, these are moved around so that it's difficult for the police to perform a sting.

2. The most notable name involved in street racing is the Warlocks, though many of the other gangs dabble in it from time to time and have their Usual Guys who race for them. There are a lot of burgeoning gangs that are trying to get noticed and get reputations via their street racing. You can assume that Kylo knows about the Warlocks, but probably won't have up to date information on the other gangs involved, or who's racing for them.

3. It depends! If the racer is racing for himself, he might be able to make a certain amount of the bets back depending on where he places. If he's racing for a gang, he likely has a guy making bets for him, and they'll split the winnings. Someone who's good could make a living off of this, just like with the fighting rings.

4. There wouldn't be anything like official sponsorships, but gangs will recruit good racers from burgeoning gangs or even just up-and-coming guys who show up. It isn't a full-time commitment in the least, as it's done in the evenings. Largely consider the street races to be a "racing" component of the fighting rings, but with the mob families not as involved.

legal racing

1. We haven't come up with any names yet! They are games that someone could encounter in any standard arcade or VR parlour. If you'd like to come up with a name, feel free! If not, we'll put on our thinking caps.

That said, there are probably one or two big racing games, with people generally dismissing the rest as buggy and not great.

2. Much like today, being recruited into VR racing is a similar track to esports. Someone likely needs to enter some amateur tournaments and get noticed. These run all of the time, with there being different tiers. The higher tier ones involve an entry fee, but if someone does well, they'll make that back (and more) quite easily. By playing in the amateur circuit, someone can eventually get noticed and signed with a racing group (which is where sponsorships and the like come in).

3. This depends on talent! Someone who's that good would eventually catch someone's eye. Overall, this is likely a much faster track than it might be in our world thanks to the number of amateur tournaments and the fact that no one would need to pay for constant car repairs.

gaming

1. All of the gaming companies are eventually bought out by major corporations in the world. "Indie" doesn't exist beyond someone using VR makers to create games for people to play (and in general, most "indie" creators are advertising themselves on social media). Despite the easy access to technology, most talented creators aren't going to be so dedicated to their art that they risk not making money. A good creator may develop a game independently, but then it'll be sold to a big developer who will then allow them to realize their dreams.

A few big names are SoftSofter (owned by Riverstone), VRiety (also owned by Riverstone), Rigged! (owned by Pulsar), The Dog That Barks (also owned by Pulsar), Ultiminute (owned by Vyonation), Floating Ball (owned by KCCC, a corporation based out of New Lagos), and GIANT boom (owned by Giles Bell). All of these companies are independent subsidiaries that don't have to answer to any corporate heads (unless they aren't putting out products - which would then cause some problems).

2. We haven't come up with a lot of big games, so we'd feel comfortable letting you do that! The big genre right now is immersive Choose Your Own Adventure games. These games are the 2511 equivalent of Detroit: Become Human or Telltale games, only the player is the protagonist, allowing them to take a lot of different paths, develop relationships with NPCs, and even get their rocks off if they so choose. Like in the haunted houses from our Halloween event, these games allow someone to choose the settings that will interact with their brain chemistry and set what is comfortable.

Again, please feel free to come up with what you want with games! We rarely have things like this thought up in advance, as we don't want to infringe on players' creativity.

3. It depends on their game of choice! FPS players will probably have objects that link in to their neural implant that are top of the line. If someone does fighting games, they'll have a proper floor for it so they don't slip, while a VR racer would likely have a seat that helps emulate the experience.

4. There are all sorts of cons! Conventions in 2511 are purely profitable experiences (compared to now, when they're largely run as non-profits). There are comic conventions, video game conventions like today's PAX, and everything in-between. Cooking convention? Sure! Tattoo Conventions? Done. They probably are happening all the time. We just try to spice up arrival logs.

Go ahead and make something up yourself in this regard! There are definitely a lot of artists who have wide portfolios on Cooltalk, so he can pick out the one whose design appeals to him the most and ask if their books are open.

Sniper could, but since sex work is legal around the world, it's unlikely that they would be able to develop a clientele from other cities that would be interested in their services long term. The cost of travel wouldn't be too prohibitive - especially for soccer stars - but there would need to be a strongly established reason for why they would want to come ask for Sniper's services (or even pay for Sniper to come to them).

It may be viable with Sniper's current established circumstances, but we'd like to know more about how they would go about this!

ok, so: radical thought but could i potentially look at kylo getting a gym job for the week and then possibly get in to being a bouncer part-time on weekends etc for some extra cash and then take him that route gradually? he is going to be looking to change apartments soon, looking for somewhere bigger and a bit pricier, so finding ways to make a little extra cash certainly feels feasible for him right now.

if not, this is also cool but i figure it doesn't hurt to ask.

In that thread, you provide mostly info on enforcers who'd duck surveillance. Are there any bounty hunters/mercenaries that are employed by e.g. the police or by rich people idek to find things or people? Not necessarily ducking surveillance but finding those that have tried?

Or is that all on the police/not at all frequent enough to make a living off, given the level of surveillance?
