LOCATIONS

> LOCATIONS

While the moderators will make up their fair share of locations, we want everyone to feel comfortable exploring and expanding upon the world of Meadowlark. This page will never be definitive as it's meant to be player built more than mod built. We will include any major locations down below that we feel are necessary.

> LIMITATIONS

The only limitations in place in game involve any major corporations - either in New Amsterdam or the world as a whole. All of Meadowlark's fictional corporations factor into the game's greater worldbuild and need to be carefully monitored by the moderators.

Right now, the three big established corporations in New Amsterdam are Pulsar, Vyonation, and Giles Bell. While each of these companies are worldwide operations, their headquarters are in New Amsterdam itself. These are not the only corporations in Meadowlark's world, however.

If you have any suggestions or ideas for these corporations, as well as outlets for opportunities, please contact us on our PLOT ENGAGEMENT POST.

Otherwise, please keep our SETTING PAGE in mind when you comment here. If you introduce a new business, name a park, or even develop a new apartment complex, we want to make sure that it adheres to the limitations of our game. For example: coffee shops exist, but are extremely expensive and only found within high-scale areas like New Amsterdam's financial district. Apartment complexes will largely involve smaller units - anything larger would be out of the range of all of the characters' budgets.

We will only monitor this page for anything that doesn't adhere to the setting, and ask that someone resubmit according to the guidelines of the game itself.

Following our eighth event, characters opened up the world through a fast travel network. Since travel between New Amsterdam and other locations is now much quicker, we have opened up a section below to allow players to begin to create locations outside of New Amsterdam. Please refer to the Outside of New Amsterdam comment for some additional information.

ALTERNIQ
Location: Ubiquitous, especially in 'trendier,' wealthier neighborhoods and the corporate downtown districts.
Appearance: Designed to resemble the smaller local 'coffee' shops as much as possible, but with a very generic feel as its general layout and aesthetic is handed down from corporate with little variation from shop to shop.
Other Important Notes: Readily available alternative 'coffee' with the cheapest being some combination of roasted chicory and mushrooms. Some of the drinks are closer to herbal, caffeinated milkshakes than coffee or tea. A global franchise headquartered in New Amsterdam, coffee and tea enthusiasts are constantly complaining that it's destroying the city's traditional coffeehouse culture, although plenty of local alternative coffee shops remain. Popular flavors include beetroot, ginger, black sesame, dandelion and burdock, carob, dulse, and reishi, often with some sort of whipped or foamed coconut milk. Pastries, sandwiches, and packaged snacks are available for purchase as well. It's known to have clean, unlocked bathrooms, in case of emergencies.

BRANDT SQUARE
Location: In the heart of the city, this is New Amsterdam's main entertainment district, populated by high-end stores and clubs and other attractive businesses.
Appearance: Bright, crowded, high traffic, busy at all times of the day and night. Less of a street and more of an entire area of crisscrossing avenues that feed into one main wide city block, but still commonly called "Brandt Square" by NA citizens. Consider it comparable to downtown New York City or Tokyo in their past prime. Advertisements will be everywhere on high-definition screens visible through the neural implants.
Other Important Notes: Most likely to find dance and concert venues, electronics stores (looking to buy a new hoverbike? look no further), and other shopping essentials for those with the credits to spend. The popular Aslyum club is located in this area.

ASYLUM
Location: Set in the heart of the downtown entertainment district within Brandt Square.
Appearance: Lauded as the most popular (and pricey) club in NA, Asylum houses a VIP section with a private bar in addition to a more open space for the general public. There are areas to relax and take a break from dancing while having an expensive drink or food from a limited menu. The venue also has an incredible view of the cityscape from its upper level balcony attached to the VIP section.
Other Important Notes: Most people are unlikely to get in without an invitation or connections to someone with deep pockets, brand names, or some other corporate affiliation. Known to be visited occasionally by Hideki Maeda. Also, bouncers will turn away people at the door if they aren't well dressed for upscale clubbing.

VELDE & SONS MAINTENANCE
Location: The main building is located at the edge of the financial district, but there are two other offices: one in a middle class neighborhood adjacent to the arts and culture district, and the second in a poverty stricken area in the west end of the city.
Appearance: The central building is three floors attached to a garage full of supplies and vehicles, with "Velde & Sons" across the front in bright blue neon lights. Secondary location is simply a rented floor in the building next to an auto repair shop. The third is only a smaller space in a run down mall, where half the businesses have already shut their doors.
Other Important Notes: Velde & Sons is freelance business with a focus on general maintenance repair work, run by a woman named Auden Sahrah, whose mother ran it before her. It's reputable and efficient, with clientele across the city and contracts to various corporations. They fix electricity issues, security malfunctions, piping and plumbing, technological glitches, and more. She keeps a variety of specialists employed. The office located in the west end is more like a walk in service, with two workers on site and a single receptionist to pass along business inquiries towards the main office. Auden keeps it open to make sure even the less wealthy clients have options, and she operates this single branch on a sliding scale.

LA PAPILLON BISTRO & RESTAURANT
Location: In a higher-end commercial part of the city, tucked away among other shops, boutiques, restaurants, and cafes.
Appearance: It's a French-inspired restaurant (with Dutch influences, naturally) so it has those touches, with warm lighting and decor on the inside.
Other Important Notes: At the front of the restaurant there is a counter that serves hot drinks and pastries, but a full-blown restaurant lays beyond. There's outdoor seating as well, and the entire place is meant to try and transport you to a different time, away from the fast-based cyberpunk nature of the city. Unsurprisingly, escargot is one of their signature and most popular dishes.

NIEUWE TEYLERS MUSEUM
Location: The older, central part of the arts & cultural district.
Appearance: Unsurprisingly, a very futuristic architecture, with a rooftop gallery for more transient and modern sculpture exhibits. It's relatively small for a city of this size, given the small amount of phsyical pieces that have survived this long outside of private collections. There is an entire floor of the museum dedicated to VR replicas of pieces, and interactive hologram simulations.
Other Important Notes: This museum dedicates a great deal of time, effort, and budget to social galas for several reasons: to raise funds from donors and patrons; to schmooze prospective donors and patrons to share their private collections; and to give said donors and patrons an occasion to showcase their philanthropy and cultural stewardship. There's usually at least one or two grand fetes per year which are well covered by the society news.

NA'DAM Lookout
Location: At the north side of the city center where it can provide a scenic view of the surroundings.
Appearance: An observation deck and entertainment center at the top of the NA'DAM Tower. The tower itself is largely a mix of various offices for various businesses. The top two floors are set aside aside for a restaurant and bar with stunning panoramic views, indoor and outdoor observation decks, VR systems highlighting information about the various viewpoints, fun photo opportunities, and a daring swing on the sky deck that hangs over the edge. A popular location for dates.
Other Important Notes: The admission fee is fairly inexpensive and often packaged with other popular date activities in the city at discount pricing. Reportedly the name and attractions comes from a previous tower in old Amsterdam.

GRACHTEN HOTEL AND CASINO
Location: The edges of the city center
Appearance: Grachten Casino is old and luxurious, frequented as much for spas and concerts as for floor gambling. The interior designer opted for a gaudy old-world style for the decorations, which despite all the money clearly made and invested in this casino, is a little kitschy and tacky for where it's at in New Amsterdam. It gives it the feeling of being a floating liminal space, perfect for escapism. All of the gambling machines, from slots to blackjack to races, utilize AR. There are also costly VR arcade games to be found here, many of them with in-game gamble purchases. Notably, there is no prostitution permitted within the premises.
Other Important Notes: For a place that seems a hive of shady things, it's surprisingly infrequently pinned for any funny business. Too clean for its business.

Cutting Edge
Location: A little corner close to the center of New Amsterdam.
Appearance: A pretty standard hair salon, with great lighting and an exaggerated amount of mirrors. Fits 12 to 15 people inside.
Other Important Notes: The Cutting Edge offers a loyalty discount! Complete 10 visits and receive a free blowout and cut on your next visit!

Wednesdays are discount days, 10% off!
