PLOT ENGAGEMENT (ARCHIVED)
What is Plot Engagement and how does it work within Meadowlark? This is the page where players can come discuss with us how to facilitate plots within the setting. However, there will be occasions where a plot doesn't work within Meadowlark's world, and we'll suggest alternative routes. For small worldbuilding or gameplay details, please direct your question to the FAQ. If you're ever not sure if you're at the right page, don't worry—we'll help you get it sorted out. We know we have a load of info!
WHEN WILL YOU HEAR BACK?
◉ All Plot Engagement answers go out on Sunday, except during events.
◉ The deadline to submit a question and ensure you'll hear back from us on Sunday is 11:59 PM UTC on Saturday.
PLOT ENGAGEMENT INCLUDES
◉ Player plots! If you'd like your character to become a mafia boss, this is your place to start. Typically, this involves anything that could impact the setting or other player characters.
◉ Character career advancement that gives the character additional power or status within the setting.
◉ Metaplot exploration and information! We plan all events to give characters something to explore after the event ends. This is the place to do it!
SUBMISSION TIPS
◉ Specify what your character is looking for when they're investigating. What questions are they asking and what angle are they trying to explore?
◉ If you have a specific goal in mind but don't know how to reach it, please let us know.
◉ If you link a thread to us, please summarize it! That helps us process the plot in question.
◉ Don't worry about not knowing the setting like the back of your hand before you submit the plot—that's up to us! We're here to help you with any adjustments to get you on the right track.
NOTES & THINGS THAT YOU CAN HANDWAVE
◉ Characters always start out in entry level positions. Characters can update their skill sets to the 2512 standard through paid apprenticeships or internships.
◈ If a character is advancing within a major corporation (as noted on the Setting or Locations page) or one of its subsidiaries, we will need to approve this advancement.
◈ If a character becomes a supervisor at a local bar or other small business, we do not need to approve this advancement.
◉ Joining the police force within a city requires three months of IC training (six months OOC).
◉ We'll approve whether someone has social media fame, but we will not be providing social media follower counts. Once you have a plot for how to use those followers, that's where we step in!
◉ All Morningstar business goes on our Morningstar page. Please feel free to discuss specific plots here (including joining), and go there for signups and anything else.
◉ Characters getting jobs, finding apartments, participating in the fighting rings, getting married, making workplace friends, the creation of minor NPCs, etc. do not need to be run by us. Please let us know if these expand into player plots or other plot bits!

But first, something we've been meaning to PM you about! The fact that you brought this here is timely, so we can do our note here. 😉
On the way back from New Tokyo - and Hideki intends to stay as long as Prompto and Cain do - there will be a point where they're stopped for having drugs in their suitcases. Hideki will have stashed his in his own, as well as theirs at some point without their permission. No one will be arrested, but while on the train, they will be detained with him for a short time!
Once Hideki manages to be allowed a chance to call Someone (you can guess who), they'll be let off, and only the drugs will be retained. They also won't have any marks on their permanent record.

First off: that's a yes on the idea! Hideki would definitely throw a birthday party for his friends. He'd find out through their Cooltalk profiles, most likely - he'd see that their birthdays are coming up! This party wouldn't be at his home - which he does share with his parents, even if they could easily let him live on his own - but rather at the VIP section of the most popular club downtown: Asylum. He would hire DJ Semicolon - who's very popular around New Amsterdam and not exactly easy to book - and would ensure that everyone invited would be able to drink and eat to their heart's content. Semicolon is currently the best at combining modern sounds with Whitney Houston's best hits, creating a mesh of thrumming beats and slow tunes when everyone just needs to slow down. And yes, you bet there will be some nice, fresh meat along among the hor d'oeuvres.
However - once the party winds down, Hideki would be glad to take his two buddies back to his place to chill out and meet his dog. Given the chaos happening with the Maeda family, they'd get in easily and would be able to sneak around. His parents would be out - "business, work, whatever" - but that just makes it easier for Prom or Cain to snoop around.
As for invites: Hideki would invite anyone that Prompto and Cain follows on Cooltalk to the party, and they can feel free to invite anyone else, as well. It wouldn't be a surprise party. They would know in advance, though Jason isn't likely to be a welcome guest (for likely obvious reasons).
We're happy to NPC Hideki at the party and do some scene setting at his parents' penthouse apartment afterward. We'll set up a top level so anyone who's at the party can interact with him, though he might brush off anyone who doesn't interest him (and these rejections are likely to be for very shallow reasons ...).

I didn't find Asylum from a quick skim of the locations page - is there more you could tell us about this club, or can we get creative and make it up ourselves? Also, would Cain and Prompto have to distract Hideki to snoop around once they're back at his place? Or can they roam around more freely?
Of course we'll be waiting until later May to set up a log for this, probably around the 20th when the IC calendar is closer to their birthdays. Let me know if there's anything we should be sure to include! Am I correct in the interpretation that you'll set up a thread with Hideki in the log, or should we plan to do a starter for him beyond the one you're writing that is open to others?

We made up the club for this party - we're happy to provide more information, but equally happy to let you do that yourselves! Prompto and Cain will be allowed to roam freely because Hideki is far too trusting (and dumb).
And yes, we will be setting up a thread for Hideki, with an open and closed section!
