PLOT ENGAGEMENT (ARCHIVED)
What is Plot Engagement and how does it work within Meadowlark? This is the page where players can come discuss with us how to facilitate plots within the setting. However, there will be occasions where a plot doesn't work within Meadowlark's world, and we'll suggest alternative routes. For small worldbuilding or gameplay details, please direct your question to the FAQ. If you're ever not sure if you're at the right page, don't worry—we'll help you get it sorted out. We know we have a load of info!
WHEN WILL YOU HEAR BACK?
◉ All Plot Engagement answers go out on Sunday, except during events.
◉ The deadline to submit a question and ensure you'll hear back from us on Sunday is 11:59 PM UTC on Saturday.
PLOT ENGAGEMENT INCLUDES
◉ Player plots! If you'd like your character to become a mafia boss, this is your place to start. Typically, this involves anything that could impact the setting or other player characters.
◉ Character career advancement that gives the character additional power or status within the setting.
◉ Metaplot exploration and information! We plan all events to give characters something to explore after the event ends. This is the place to do it!
SUBMISSION TIPS
◉ Specify what your character is looking for when they're investigating. What questions are they asking and what angle are they trying to explore?
◉ If you have a specific goal in mind but don't know how to reach it, please let us know.
◉ If you link a thread to us, please summarize it! That helps us process the plot in question.
◉ Don't worry about not knowing the setting like the back of your hand before you submit the plot—that's up to us! We're here to help you with any adjustments to get you on the right track.
NOTES & THINGS THAT YOU CAN HANDWAVE
◉ Characters always start out in entry level positions. Characters can update their skill sets to the 2512 standard through paid apprenticeships or internships.
◈ If a character is advancing within a major corporation (as noted on the Setting or Locations page) or one of its subsidiaries, we will need to approve this advancement.
◈ If a character becomes a supervisor at a local bar or other small business, we do not need to approve this advancement.
◉ Joining the police force within a city requires three months of IC training (six months OOC).
◉ We'll approve whether someone has social media fame, but we will not be providing social media follower counts. Once you have a plot for how to use those followers, that's where we step in!
◉ All Morningstar business goes on our Morningstar page. Please feel free to discuss specific plots here (including joining), and go there for signups and anything else.
◉ Characters getting jobs, finding apartments, participating in the fighting rings, getting married, making workplace friends, the creation of minor NPCs, etc. do not need to be run by us. Please let us know if these expand into player plots or other plot bits!

You can feel free to make up the bar and club names yourself! However, we would want to touch base with you about his investigation, as we're not certain what he's looking for in them. Was there anything in particular that Kylo Ren hoped to find out? We're happy to tailor a response for you.
As for the gaming, it's actually more visible than what we have now! It is more structured than it is today, with a bunch of budding up and coming stars, as it's more widely available and accessible as a pastime (or potential career) thanks to the neural implants.

okay, so: i think his initial hope would be to learn more about the opinions people might have about the current leadership of new amsterdam, and if there was any discontent, and if so what areas specificially. other than that, he'd be looking at the other megacities and if there were any tensions.
however, for something more current he'd be interested in if anyone had herd anything about the recent apartment fire? he'd assume given the response by the emergency services that it's not something especially commonplace, would be interested in any rumors that might be floating around ㅡ and anything that might be tied to the nurse specifically, though he's not that hopeful.
as to gaming, just to then clarify: he could start competing on a smaller, local level and gain some notoriety and potentially wind up competing in slightly larger and more prestigious competitions in the longer term? right now my plan is basically for him to start hanging out at vr parlours and getting the hang of some of the available games and then working his way up to competitions.

The only real known faction making any stand against the government is Morningstar, but no one in any of the bars will want to talk about them. Most of the sentiment toward Morningstar is to be cautious and rarely breathe a word about them, as it might come back to bite them. Morningstar's ability to prevail is markedly annoying to the government. If Kylo presses this angle, he'll find that he'll be shut down and he may receive a threat to be booted out of the establishment. They may be running illegal activities, but that doesn't mean they want to be linked to Morningstar in any way, shape, or form.
As for the fire, most of the people in these establishments will remark that it's strange that all the chaos was caused by people who lived there, and wonder if there was any weapon deployed. Otherwise, they'll be irritated that news outlets tried to suggest that anyone from one of the big crime organizations would even dare to do something like that. Why would they try to draw attention to themselves? There will be no information about the nurse.
Finally, the gaming route seems fine!

Most of the people who lived in the building haven't been able to return to the building because of the extensive damage. Kylo would have to look into where they've been moved to, first, which will be emergency housing similar to those relocated after the creature attack (hotels for some, shelters for others). If Kylo successfully manages to track them down, he'll find that only a few of the nurse's neighbors even remember him as living in the building, nor will any remember anything strange about the day. If Kylo also asks anyone who lives nearby, they would say that the fire itself was the most notable event that evening.
