PLOT ENGAGEMENT (ARCHIVED)
What is Plot Engagement and how does it work within Meadowlark? This is the page where players can come discuss with us how to facilitate plots within the setting. However, there will be occasions where a plot doesn't work within Meadowlark's world, and we'll suggest alternative routes. For small worldbuilding or gameplay details, please direct your question to the FAQ. If you're ever not sure if you're at the right page, don't worry—we'll help you get it sorted out. We know we have a load of info!
WHEN WILL YOU HEAR BACK?
◉ All Plot Engagement answers go out on Sunday, except during events.
◉ The deadline to submit a question and ensure you'll hear back from us on Sunday is 11:59 PM UTC on Saturday.
PLOT ENGAGEMENT INCLUDES
◉ Player plots! If you'd like your character to become a mafia boss, this is your place to start. Typically, this involves anything that could impact the setting or other player characters.
◉ Character career advancement that gives the character additional power or status within the setting.
◉ Metaplot exploration and information! We plan all events to give characters something to explore after the event ends. This is the place to do it!
SUBMISSION TIPS
◉ Specify what your character is looking for when they're investigating. What questions are they asking and what angle are they trying to explore?
◉ If you have a specific goal in mind but don't know how to reach it, please let us know.
◉ If you link a thread to us, please summarize it! That helps us process the plot in question.
◉ Don't worry about not knowing the setting like the back of your hand before you submit the plot—that's up to us! We're here to help you with any adjustments to get you on the right track.
NOTES & THINGS THAT YOU CAN HANDWAVE
◉ Characters always start out in entry level positions. Characters can update their skill sets to the 2512 standard through paid apprenticeships or internships.
◈ If a character is advancing within a major corporation (as noted on the Setting or Locations page) or one of its subsidiaries, we will need to approve this advancement.
◈ If a character becomes a supervisor at a local bar or other small business, we do not need to approve this advancement.
◉ Joining the police force within a city requires three months of IC training (six months OOC).
◉ We'll approve whether someone has social media fame, but we will not be providing social media follower counts. Once you have a plot for how to use those followers, that's where we step in!
◉ All Morningstar business goes on our Morningstar page. Please feel free to discuss specific plots here (including joining), and go there for signups and anything else.
◉ Characters getting jobs, finding apartments, participating in the fighting rings, getting married, making workplace friends, the creation of minor NPCs, etc. do not need to be run by us. Please let us know if these expand into player plots or other plot bits!

1. Foam - is it easy to get/create if you know the chemistry behind it? Roy volunteered to try making foam practice swords/knives for the civilian training project and I want to make sure that's a feasible thing first.
2. Cyber Security/Surveillance - This was something under in Roy's skillset back home and I'd like to have him try to get at least a little more up to speed with it in here, though I know this one's going to be difficult with how intense cyber security is. Is there a company Roy could intern with for this field (in addition to the Tactus internship)?
I thiiiink that's it for now. thanks for all your hard work, guys!!

1. Foam shouldn't be too hard to find. Roy will definitely have the ability to make practice weapons, especially because most of the parts (including the foam) could simply be 3D printed, which would be the most easily accessible method.
2. Internships in this world are full-time jobs, so Roy has two options here:
- He can drop his Tactus internship and get a new one. Vyonation is the big name in cyber security, so they'll be his best bet. For the most part, Roy will simply need to do some catching up to update his knowledge base to the technology level the world is at now. A lot of this can be done online through his own research/classes.
- He can do it the shady way and try to learn more about cyber security by using the Hi-Jacks, a hacking gang. They have high standards, however, so he'll need to impress them before they'll take him under their wing. Usually, the best way to do this is by pulling off some high-level hacks himself. They'll obviously be looking at these skills from a different perspective than Vyonation—how to beat security systems rather than build them up. Then again, there's something to be said about understanding how to make something stronger by breaking it first.

Re: internships and cyber security, i think i want to go with option 2 there, and have roy pull a high-level hack at some point to try getting on their radar. Would it be safe to say he could hear rumors or vague street whispers about the Hi-Jacks through hanging around the black market places and sketchier bars? Beating security systems is more of Roy's interest in general, anyway.

Roy could easily learn about the Hi-Jacks because of his current connections to Jason's (former?) gangs. So, less complicated! They do tend to do some mercenary hacks (so to speak, not actually as mercenaries) in that they're hired, so they've done some work for Durcell. Durcell does not run or manage them, however!

i'm going to throw some ideas out, and i guess if you guys could let me know if these are doable or not, that'd be awesome? Since he knows Durcell (sort of), maybe he could try to bork with some of his less intense security? roy likes to steal data and replace it with dumb videos of dancing penguins or crap like that, so his hack would probably be something along those lines. If there's any official files on Red Hood, Jason's or Loki's gang connections on police databases (if they're low enough level y'all think Roy should be able to access them), he'd definitely go for those. If the Maeda nonsense is still going on, that's another person he'd go after, because he's still pissed about Damian's arm. Umm, alternatively, he could do something that's basically shitposting and maybe hijack a news feed and replace it with mocking anti-propaganda? what would really be cool is if he could hack Riverstone to try to get some more info on this testing stuff, but i'm assuming they have a really serious cyber security system going on that would be above his current level.
idk if any of that helps or is feasible, sorry guys, i'm a little lost and don't want to overstep anything on what roy should be capable of.

We think hijacking a news feed is his best bet at this stage! We're unlikely to expand on the Maeda plot, though we're happy to create another Maeda-like nemesis in the future if that's something you're interested in. You can assume that he's started to work with the Hi-Jacks if you'd like.
Would you like his hijacking to be featured on a future calendar? If so, let us know the deets so we can include them.

Oh, no need to make another Maeda-like person, I think Roy and Loki will have their hands full with gangland related baddies as is, but thanks for the offer.
Ooo, it might be cool to make it a future calendar thing, yeah. Let me slap some deets down here for yall. If any of that doesn't work, feel free to change any part of it!
