PLOT ENGAGEMENT (ARCHIVED)
What is Plot Engagement and how does it work within Meadowlark? This is the page where players can come discuss with us how to facilitate plots within the setting. However, there will be occasions where a plot doesn't work within Meadowlark's world, and we'll suggest alternative routes. For small worldbuilding or gameplay details, please direct your question to the FAQ. If you're ever not sure if you're at the right page, don't worry—we'll help you get it sorted out. We know we have a load of info!
WHEN WILL YOU HEAR BACK?
◉ All Plot Engagement answers go out on Sunday, except during events.
◉ The deadline to submit a question and ensure you'll hear back from us on Sunday is 11:59 PM UTC on Saturday.
PLOT ENGAGEMENT INCLUDES
◉ Player plots! If you'd like your character to become a mafia boss, this is your place to start. Typically, this involves anything that could impact the setting or other player characters.
◉ Character career advancement that gives the character additional power or status within the setting.
◉ Metaplot exploration and information! We plan all events to give characters something to explore after the event ends. This is the place to do it!
SUBMISSION TIPS
◉ Specify what your character is looking for when they're investigating. What questions are they asking and what angle are they trying to explore?
◉ If you have a specific goal in mind but don't know how to reach it, please let us know.
◉ If you link a thread to us, please summarize it! That helps us process the plot in question.
◉ Don't worry about not knowing the setting like the back of your hand before you submit the plot—that's up to us! We're here to help you with any adjustments to get you on the right track.
NOTES & THINGS THAT YOU CAN HANDWAVE
◉ Characters always start out in entry level positions. Characters can update their skill sets to the 2512 standard through paid apprenticeships or internships.
◈ If a character is advancing within a major corporation (as noted on the Setting or Locations page) or one of its subsidiaries, we will need to approve this advancement.
◈ If a character becomes a supervisor at a local bar or other small business, we do not need to approve this advancement.
◉ Joining the police force within a city requires three months of IC training (six months OOC).
◉ We'll approve whether someone has social media fame, but we will not be providing social media follower counts. Once you have a plot for how to use those followers, that's where we step in!
◉ All Morningstar business goes on our Morningstar page. Please feel free to discuss specific plots here (including joining), and go there for signups and anything else.
◉ Characters getting jobs, finding apartments, participating in the fighting rings, getting married, making workplace friends, the creation of minor NPCs, etc. do not need to be run by us. Please let us know if these expand into player plots or other plot bits!

We have a few questions that we need answered, and we hope that by answering these, you'll have a better idea of how to pursue this plot. Just to be clear, we're totally up for the Daughters of Artemis being brought into the game, but Kass will need to do a lot of legwork to execute on this.
First, regarding the Daughters themselves:
1. Will they be a gang, a defense group, a superhero-like outfit, or a mercenary group? We're not entirely clear on how Kass intends to execute this group. Bear in mind that Meadowlark's world has not had separate militaries for almost half a millenia now. Even the mercenary outfits have been revealed to be so-called private security groups hired by corporations. (Kass can learn this from characters like Nathan Drake who had a vested interest in this. Nate also did a post on the topic a few months ago, right before the simulation hit!) She'll need to keep in mind how she intends to approach this group moving forward. We're happy to give you some more information and advice on how to go about this once we know what she intends to do.
2. How will Kass be recruiting? We'll be clear: the "women only" angle will seem dated within Meadowlark's setting, and will be lost on the women she's trying to recruit. Ideas of the patriarchy have largely gone by the wayside. While this doesn't deal with the hundreds of years of history where women were forced to live under that social construct, the women in Meadowlark's world don't experience the same oppression.
Furthermore, to give you an idea of the soldiers that Kass will be recruiting: these are women who were, by and large, recruited at the age of 17-18 to join a military that would eventually strip them of their individual and unique identities. They had technology installed into their heads and at times rapidly updated thanks to Judas messing around behind the scenes. Now they're being treated as if being forced to experience this technology has left them tainted. Even with the UN making overtures to rebuild their army, they aren't recalling their soldiers, instead hanging them out to dry.
Kass will likely need to learn this information (it's publicly available in the media, and the other Displaced know it as well) in order to speak to them in a way that appeals to them and their experiences. While they'll know that she's a well-trained soldier, they've been surrounded by well-trained soldiers all their lives. They'll need Kass to speak to them about their own experiences. We're also not sure if Kass will be treating the Daughters of Artemis as something she "learned about" and wants to "recreate" during these trying times, or if she'll be speaking as if they're something she's experienced herself first hand.
3. Will Kass be recruiting from the Displaced? Right now, this seems like a largely NPC-based endeavor. We're curious if she intends to turn her sights on the Displaced women to see if they'd be interested in helping make a name for this group, especially when Displaced reputations are at an all time high.
Finally, for Kass herself:
1. What resources will she have at her disposal to take on a group like this? Regardless of how she chooses to identify the Daughters of Artemis, she'll need to find a way to support them with resources and supplies. We know that you intend to have the Daughters help with her job at Red Wings, but will she be making this a Red Wings-focused endeavor where she can potentially draw on resources there, or will she be looking elsewhere?
We're happy to point you in a few directions if needed, either through other PC endeavors, or in places where she can take advantage of the current chaos in New Amsterdam to get a hold of some resources herself. We'd primarily like some more clarity on where she'd look and what she'd want!
2. How is Kass developing a reputation for herself as a good leader to be followed? Keep in mind, again, that many of the same tactics that worked for Sparta will be dated by Meadowlark's standards. How is she adapting and changing her approach in this modern world?
We hope these questions help you focus your plans for Kass, and feel free to ask us any additional questions about anything we've outlined above to better move forward.
