PLOT ENGAGEMENT (ARCHIVED)
What is Plot Engagement and how does it work within Meadowlark? This is the page where players can come discuss with us how to facilitate plots within the setting. However, there will be occasions where a plot doesn't work within Meadowlark's world, and we'll suggest alternative routes. For small worldbuilding or gameplay details, please direct your question to the FAQ. If you're ever not sure if you're at the right page, don't worry—we'll help you get it sorted out. We know we have a load of info!
WHEN WILL YOU HEAR BACK?
◉ All Plot Engagement answers go out on Sunday, except during events.
◉ The deadline to submit a question and ensure you'll hear back from us on Sunday is 11:59 PM UTC on Saturday.
PLOT ENGAGEMENT INCLUDES
◉ Player plots! If you'd like your character to become a mafia boss, this is your place to start. Typically, this involves anything that could impact the setting or other player characters.
◉ Character career advancement that gives the character additional power or status within the setting.
◉ Metaplot exploration and information! We plan all events to give characters something to explore after the event ends. This is the place to do it!
SUBMISSION TIPS
◉ Specify what your character is looking for when they're investigating. What questions are they asking and what angle are they trying to explore?
◉ If you have a specific goal in mind but don't know how to reach it, please let us know.
◉ If you link a thread to us, please summarize it! That helps us process the plot in question.
◉ Don't worry about not knowing the setting like the back of your hand before you submit the plot—that's up to us! We're here to help you with any adjustments to get you on the right track.
NOTES & THINGS THAT YOU CAN HANDWAVE
◉ Characters always start out in entry level positions. Characters can update their skill sets to the 2512 standard through paid apprenticeships or internships.
◈ If a character is advancing within a major corporation (as noted on the Setting or Locations page) or one of its subsidiaries, we will need to approve this advancement.
◈ If a character becomes a supervisor at a local bar or other small business, we do not need to approve this advancement.
◉ Joining the police force within a city requires three months of IC training (six months OOC).
◉ We'll approve whether someone has social media fame, but we will not be providing social media follower counts. Once you have a plot for how to use those followers, that's where we step in!
◉ All Morningstar business goes on our Morningstar page. Please feel free to discuss specific plots here (including joining), and go there for signups and anything else.
◉ Characters getting jobs, finding apartments, participating in the fighting rings, getting married, making workplace friends, the creation of minor NPCs, etc. do not need to be run by us. Please let us know if these expand into player plots or other plot bits!

In the meantime, can you have Kay check in once you're done talking to them? We want to make sure everyone is on the same page so we can plot that fallout with them moving forward.
Thanks!

Commenting to say I reached out to them and let them know to contact you, the mods!
And, an amendment. William did try to see if there was any trace of surviving scientists post Antarctica. But, he passes on the information to Dany. She wanted to take the responsibility.

Dany carries a pretty hefty amount of guilt for having to leave the scientists behind SO. Once discovering his intentions, she would have made good faith to at least ping the contacts she DID have (via social media, or through Aramis, regardless of whether or not they would see the messages while trapped in Antarctica...or while dead) with the information that William had stolen their findings while in Antarctica and was going to make attempts to publish them.
Because of the way William framed his intentions (as in, planning to publish no matter what anyone says), she would frame these messages in such a way that suggests that he acted without her knowledge or blessing (even though that is...perhaps only half true).
But she is obviously going to be occupied w/ the event and also going to end up a dragon half way through the plot so she will likely be unable to follow up after those initial attempts to warn/contact/communicate with them. RIP employment.

Daenerys will definitely be out of a job thanks to everything that's gone down. Not only did she bring William along for the expedition, but she didn't do anything to screen the people that were coming with her. Of course, there may not be much of a job left to go to. As you guessed, most of her contacts were killed during the earthquake. If she reaches back out to EcoFriends, they won't be pleased with what she did leading up to the expedition, and will just want to cut ties. It will be very clear that William's inclusion was a major oversight on her part.
Let us know if you have any other questions!

A few notes here since we covered a bit of this in the aftermath, instead of going down these points one by one:
1. One or two of the scientists listed as authors on the papers William released were still alive when he would have looked, though that information would have been difficult to confirm before the event! After all, it would've been a matter of who got out of the Antarctica earthquake alive, especially given the condition of the neighboring cities. These scientists won't be pleased that their work is getting muddled in government conspiracies, even if they also aren't happy that the UN blocked the publication of their work.
2. Since this is William's first whistleblowing endeavour, he will not be known for it just yet! Let us know if you have any ideas for other things he can look into (via hacking, of course). There will be some conspiracy theories who run with what this information shows about the government, citing it as proof that they have always been concealing large swaths of information that could potentially put their people in harm's way. We suggest that you take a look at the aftermath post, as well as have William reach out to the Displaced for ideas about other whistleblowing endeavors! Keep in mind that there could definitely be consequences for this, especially when it comes to employment.
3. Unfortunately, William won't be able to discover anything that wasn't immediately released by the UN about the creatures, tying their DNA structures back to the monster that appeared in our first event. That said, William will be losing his job because he brought the monster back to Vyonation and because he helped publish data that was illegally obtained. Vyonation is a data security company at its heart, so William will reveal that he's not to be trusted.
4. William likely can't erase where he lives currently because he'd need to sign some legal documents. If he ends up living with someone without being on their lease, that's possible, but there would be accesses granted to him for building privileges via his neural implant that could still be traced. So: how to get around this? He might want to reach out to El. El is known to the Displaced as a security AI. Ze might be able to give William some pointers. (Thanks to the technical know-how required here, we're happy to handwave the thread and figure out what's been covered here in this thread since we're not programmers or advanced security AIs ourselves.)
We hope this gives you enough to get started! Reach back out to us if you have any other questions.
