PLOT ENGAGEMENT (ARCHIVED)

> PLOT ENGAGEMENT (ARCHIVED)

What is Plot Engagement and how does it work within Meadowlark? This is the page where players can come discuss with us how to facilitate plots within the setting. However, there will be occasions where a plot doesn't work within Meadowlark's world, and we'll suggest alternative routes. For small worldbuilding or gameplay details, please direct your question to the FAQ. If you're ever not sure if you're at the right page, don't worry—we'll help you get it sorted out. We know we have a load of info!

WHEN WILL YOU HEAR BACK?

◉ All Plot Engagement answers go out on Sunday, except during events.
◉ The deadline to submit a question and ensure you'll hear back from us on Sunday is 11:59 PM UTC on Saturday.

PLOT ENGAGEMENT INCLUDES

◉ Player plots! If you'd like your character to become a mafia boss, this is your place to start. Typically, this involves anything that could impact the setting or other player characters.
◉ Character career advancement that gives the character additional power or status within the setting.
◉ Metaplot exploration and information! We plan all events to give characters something to explore after the event ends. This is the place to do it!

SUBMISSION TIPS

◉ Specify what your character is looking for when they're investigating. What questions are they asking and what angle are they trying to explore?
◉ If you have a specific goal in mind but don't know how to reach it, please let us know.
◉ If you link a thread to us, please summarize it! That helps us process the plot in question.
◉ Don't worry about not knowing the setting like the back of your hand before you submit the plot—that's up to us! We're here to help you with any adjustments to get you on the right track.

NOTES & THINGS THAT YOU CAN HANDWAVE

◉ Characters always start out in entry level positions. Characters can update their skill sets to the 2512 standard through paid apprenticeships or internships.

◈ If a character is advancing within a major corporation (as noted on the Setting or Locations page) or one of its subsidiaries, we will need to approve this advancement.
◈ If a character becomes a supervisor at a local bar or other small business, we do not need to approve this advancement.

◉ Joining the police force within a city requires three months of IC training (six months OOC).
◉ We'll approve whether someone has social media fame, but we will not be providing social media follower counts. Once you have a plot for how to use those followers, that's where we step in!
◉ All Morningstar business goes on our Morningstar page. Please feel free to discuss specific plots here (including joining), and go there for signups and anything else.
◉ Characters getting jobs, finding apartments, participating in the fighting rings, getting married, making workplace friends, the creation of minor NPCs, etc. do not need to be run by us. Please let us know if these expand into player plots or other plot bits!

1. For this one, he'll definitely lean on contracts. That seems like it would have the widest net of the three, for more interesting stuff. The other two he'd be normally curious about, but contracts would be where he'd focus.

2. As for this one, Jason's going to focus on upping his party bro nature. He'd pick up what type of things Hideki typically likes (through his socials) and try to position himself as "hey shit, me too bro." It helps that Mason does genuinely love drinking in bars-- and would have some actual first hand research. Even if "partying" is something he'd have to fake it till he made it a little bit.

As for the room, I went back to the thread where Jason told Mason what to look for and it was "under heavy surveillance, but locked." This comment. If there are multiple rooms that fit this description, Mason would need to go back to Jason for questioning anyway.

1. He can pretend for a lunch, I guess.

For contracts, I think he'd be interested in getting lists of other vendors Tempo works with, that can provide good hints on what resources Tempo might be using, or things that might hint at the kind of weapons they need? Basically he's casing them to build as much of a profile as possible, given how the information is under lock and key.

As for why he'd want to know these things-- at first, he'd be asking about "how this is done" and then really trying to get him to give him an example of "what would you do in xxx case." Or "What's an example of how that contract went wrong?" Stuff that could give examples of companies, and then move into more "Oh, I'm supposed to be helping with a presentation on this, but I wasn't sure who to ask." Basically, piecemealing it?

2. Honestly, getting a good look at his gambling, does Hideki play fair, or would Mason be able to catch cheats? And there is definitely the possibility of him doing gambling to work his way in to that crowd better-- especially since he's good at sleight of hand and cheating. Especially if he can find someone dumb and rich that Hideki likes seeing get beat. That he could challenge and beat at a gambling match. Bonus points if it gives him more money to operate off of. Which can hopefully be used to counter the snotty rich boy act.

Is that a possibility?

Updating 2 after a chat with Strange:

Strange is going to be using his manipulation powers to get Jason an in. So, add that to some shenanigans, I think that should work out for getting and maintaining Hideki's interest?

1. Got it! I'm gonna chew this one over, but let me assure you, he's going to keep cultivating this relationship until I can think of the next direction to take it.

2. I see this conspiracy to make him dress up. Fine, he can do that. But also, he's definitely smart enough to pick up that these guys are going to try and ruin things for him, so I imagine a little smart deflecting, or making them look bad will go far? As will the plan of helping Hideki win big against someone he doesn't like. So, hoping this works as far as getting him in with Hideki?

How obnoxious are they? And are they just shallowly obnoxious? Or are they likely to say or do things that would trigger Jason's temper? Shallow he can handle, and he's definitely smarter than them, but if they're actively cruel to people they consider "less than" them, or you know, actively criminal in ways that have nothing to do with Maeda, it might be interesting to have him lose his temper in some way at them.

Anyway, he's going to start prying on why Hideki isn't hosting gambling parties at his house, especially since being the house has its advantages.

There is likely a fight wager coming into their future, then. One that lets Jason punch them and win money over it, then, if they take that. Because he has no time for people being dicks to the working class.

Also time to point out that the guards around means people sure would be scared to fuck with the house, basically he is going to subtly start being a bad influence or using that to get more information about when the house might be clear.

Maybe don't be assholes :) Jason's more than willing to use their holier than thou attitudes against them here, since. you know. he is confident in his OWN abilities!

Anyway, if he won't do the gambling night, how about post fight drinks? Something light with a few people there, and celebratory for the winner. Might make it interesting.

ALRIGHT. He will pass off THAT knowledge. But will they make it in?

And once in, is it possible for Mason to misuse his powers of "getting lost looking for the bathroom" to identify where that room is? and what security measures are being taken?

Could he get away with getting subtle pictures of the place to return to Jason?

I think he can manage about 85% natural. In that he might linger a little long at some doors, but play it off as naturally as possible with being "lost."
