PLOT ENGAGEMENT INCLUDES

◉ Player plots! If you'd like your character to become a mafia boss, this is your place to start. Typically, this involves anything that could impact the setting or other player characters.

heya mods, just a quick one for you!

with the passage of the fighting ring tournament, i wanted to check in with you all about a few things. since the pc part didn't happen (i.e. the voting for the winner), is it still okay to say that illya participated and that he did fairly well? i'm not asking to crown him the winner but based on his skill, his past experience and how often he's been at the rings, i think he would have at least gone fairly far though i don't want to say he would have won because there were other pc players signed up that remain in the game.

and if it is okay to say that he'd gotten fairly far, would he have received any sort of attention in and out of the fighting rings for that?

so, just checking in to see if that's okay to say since i think it could be important for illya in future plot engagement inquiries.

hello i'm swinging back in!!

cassian will start by looking into the cyberkinetics of this world as a whole and just basically trying to mash his face into as much as he can learn about it as a concept and how it works on earth. specifically he'd be looking at things like what kind of technology it is (robotic, nanotech, etc) and any primary developers, as well as how someone would normally go about getting this type of surgery.

for example:
- what companies specialize in developing these replacement bones and/or body parts?
- how long a recovery does it usually take to bounce back from the more extremely invasive procedures?
- are there specific doctors in new amsterdam who specialize in this work?
- i assume he would quickly find out about how rare it is compared to shoving someone in a medi-unit, so he'd look into what kind of exceptions are made for injury severeness too. how bad does it usually have to be before cyberkinetics are even considered?

most of his initial research would be done through the neural network, digging through articles/documents/videos et all.

given she's a friend of his boss, he would also talk to the doctor he saw about his finger, though mostly about the technological development/who designs and builds it aspect - but he would be careful about his questions to make sure he doesn't come across as confused about his own cyberkinetics or someone not native to this planet. he'd have a backstory about a work related injury if questioned by her about his own. he'd ask more innocuous questions to some of his acquaintances as well, for the more public views.

hey mods, so with damian being damian i've got some questions relating to what he can find in the world.

1. is it possible to take one of the abandoned buildings in the city and change it into something that can be used as a secure training facility? obviously a lot of time would have to be put into this, so if it is, what's a reasonable timeframe to do this in?

2. in the line above, they'd need building supplies. what can be found in local shops? are they able to order any specialty things online or find them on the black market?

3. same as above, but in reference to body armor. would he be able to recreate something like this if given enough time and the right toolset? what would he need to do so?

4. would damian be able to change his idenity from [Bad username or site: hafid @ alghul] to [Bad username or site: damian @ wayne]? it's not a pressing concern of his but considering the maeda family knows 'hafid' he's thinking it might be smart to transition away from it where possible.

5. would it be possible for damian to transition into law enforcement, or will his past as an illegal underground fighter prevent him from doing so?

6. SPEAKING OF THE MAEDAS, damian wants to look into the husband - since they have a beat on hideki, and aoi has already bested him and he needs to bide his time. he'll have been trying to keep track of all of them where possible. is there any news he'd find about aoi? what can be found out about her husband on pulsar's board?

Hi Jenna! We're excited that you're excited!

1. They would capture them separately because they believe that they are dangerous elements armed with special Morningstar technology. (Insert lol here.) They would be taken to the same facility, but they wouldn't be aware that the other is there unless they messaged the other and described their surroundings. They will be able to do this!

Of course, Caroline is very strong, so if you two decide that it's only Marcos who gets captured, let us know!

2. This wouldn't go well because it's basically their word versus the UNA's. That said, it would be a matter of "prove it." There are ways they could do this, so we'll leave it up to you! Of course, depending on what they use, they will either be successful, or question three will become exceedingly relevant.

3. We will begin with saying that they wouldn't have any special means of torturing Caroline, nor any knowledge of her vampiric ways! This may be an issue during the capture period, so it really depends on how much she's able to fend that off.

When it comes to poor Marcos, much of the interrogation will involve pistolwhipping and waterboarding! They would start with fists, then guns, and then eventually waterboarding. It depends on how much Marcos necessitates that (and since the situation doesn't actually involve Morningstar, it may or may not escalate quickly).

4. In envisioning this, we really do think there is a good chance that Caroline may have to put herself into a position to be captured or come in and rescue Marcos, so we believe that both of these scenarios can open you up to some dramatic "death" sequences. For instance, Caroline showing surprising strength and breaking free could get her riddled full of bullets, rising up "from the dead" to take care of the damsel Marcos. Of course, this will make Caroline even more terrifying to the gangs than an organization with Morningstar's resilience looking at them.

Hi Kay! First of all, we wanted to apologize for the delay on this response.

An option that Dany might be able to explore, possibly with suggestions/help from some of her other Displaced (Rey and Riku have both been looking into research facilities, for instance), is to use social media and internet searches to try and find out who wrote the original article about the warm-blooded reptiles. Or she could find the social media account of someone who'd been down in the Antarctic while these discoveries were made and was involved in the research. Reaching out to these people and expressing her interest and curiosity could be a good jumping off point.

Getting access to the actual labs where these creatures are being studied (in a much more legitimate way than the research lab they're visiting in during the current log) would take some more work. If she uses her charisma stat right and builds up trust with someone working there, she might get an invitation in a visitor capacity to take a look at the work they're doing there, though her access would be limited.

If Dany wants to actually work there (we're not sure if that's what you were requesting in your question), that would be a much longer path, as she'd need to prove she had appropriate training to be there. But let us know where you're thinking of going with it based on this information!

Hi there Jenna!

Considering the circumstances, it's going to be a matter of building trust rather than hard work. Since the bugs were placed, there may be some unsureness around Daisy's intentions. Considering the corporate atmosphere, while upper management may be wary, they also find her attitude valuable. She'll have to navigate her NDA carefully!

If she's careful, Vyonation will start reaching out for her to take independent projects. They won't be linked to her direct manager, and may have more to do with different departments within the company. To kick this off, she'll get an independent project overseen by Vyonation's CSO himself, and will be put under pressure to deliver a more creative product. This request will be made on top of her normal workload. If it seems like a test, it definitely is! He won't hide it.

Hi Jessi!

As far as the El (and Gaby) question goes, the two of them will talk amongst themselves after Gaby's conversation with Jason and Loki, and ultimately decide that they'll grant him his requests / strike this deal with him. Again, it will be with the assumption that he's going to hold up his end of things as far as taking heat off of Morningstar. Also, Gaby is going to mention in the ongoing thread with Jason that she would prefer he do whatever he's planning without killing people, because she's pacifistic that way. While he doesn't have to conform to this, it might affect later interactions. El will reach out and send over the blueprints he asked for, and then go through the process of erasing his old identity and giving him a new ID. To clarify, this means that he loses everything tied to that old account (money, job, housing, etc.) and would essentially have to "start over" with a totally new life. Obviously people he'd met and interacted with in person would still know him and the other Displaced could help him work around some of these hurdles, but that would be the idea. His new account also would not be tied to any comments he made as Matches Malone on the network. We'll also need to add his new ID information to the Taken list, so please let us know what he'd come up with!

As for Jason's plan with the gangs, that sounds good! However, we'll need some clarification on who he's going after. If Jason is planning on hitting just figures in the Kings and Warlocks, that will be fine, but if he's doing more than that we'll need some more specifics. If it's the former, for short term consequences you can assume Jason is successful with all his hits, whenever he chooses to do those. Due to how quickly information travels, Jason won't be able to hit more than 5 individuals in one evening between the two gangs working on his own. After that, people will start getting suspicious and go to ground. For more, he will need to formally enlist more people.

There will still be some lingering chaos within the ranks after the last event, so the backlash of these deaths will be particularly chaotic. There will be more violence in the weeks following, both between and within the two gangs. Even though both gangs were hit, each gang will be suspicious of the other. As a relative newcomer, Jason won't be above suspicion, especially because everyone will be paying close attention to how the new power vacuum gets filled. It will be up to him to figure out how to gain power without getting killed himself. Those loyal to the dead leaders will be looking to snap up a target in order to consolidate authority to themselves, and Jason will have to deal with these people by winning them over or other means.

All told, neither the Kings or the Warlocks will be doing great after this. Both will be struggling to re-establish cash flow, and tensions between both gangs will be high.

Finally, as for Cassius, we're going to have him reach out to interested parties later!

1. We have a plot in mind for you, that's essentially based around her getting arrested and taken out to the very same research outpost that she's trying to reach. Her social media would get deleted and scrubbed entirely, and El would begin to put things into motion to make her disappear from the world. Obviously, we wouldn't want that to happen, so we're likely going to include some deus ex New Beijing machina to help out at some stage.

For now, she will get arrested and taken to a research outpost to get interrogated. This will be the same research outpost that has falsified records from here.

Of course, we need to work closely with you on this, so let us know how you feel about this!

2. A lot of this will depend on timing! Instead of trying to find evidence that the Fischers have spoken to Kurt - they haven't, because like you said, the UNA is scary - Rey can try to plant seeds of doubt in their minds. Of course, if she's running a counter UNA message online, this will be difficult! She may need some help.

3. Seeing as point one has hit brainstorming, let's hold off on this for now!

That sounds fine. Jason's guy will check for damage, how much work will go into it, considering they'll need to be scrubbed, and try to undercut her a little bit. It may be worth taking less credits to establish a relationship.

Yes, we think it's reasonable to assume that Illya got pretty far up on the leaderboard and that this would have attracted more attention to him as far as his fighting prowess, his value as a fighter who interested parties would feel comfortable betting on (and possibly colluding with him to get them both more money), and so forth.

As far as your interest in hooking him up with the Petrov family, this would definitely catch their attention and they would approach him, likely dropping by where he normally works to give him a place and time to meet with them in a more secure location. If he followed through on it (and the expectation would be that he must, or there might be consequences), they would tell him that they could use someone with his strength and skills and offer him a job as an enforcer in one of their gambling dens.

Again, the implication is that if he refused, this would not be good for him.

B. I'm really into Rey getting grabbed and taken to a research outpost yes please let's do this. I love the idea of Rey getting herself in over her head because her Adults disappeared all at once.

Hi! Sorry for the lack of clarity, we realize we left out a part that we had in our heads but it didn't make it to digital paper. In terms of being found once she is taken, the files would help her buddies know where she was taken to, and it would be the easiest place for them to go stage a rescue afterward (since we assume that's a stage of this). Of course, that's where the previously abducted agents come in as well.

That's the plot that would likely eventually need to be in motion, or discussed! (Along with the point with the Fischers, so you can have that in motion, too!)

Hi Tomato! Thanks for following up!

Cassian would soon learn that Giles Bell has been leading the industry in cybernetics for the past 200 years, having come up with the premiere way of ensuring that these cybernetics perfectly sync with the neural implant, while always being accepted by someone's biology. They worked with companies like Vyonation and Riverstone (which is based out of New Beijing). Once the medical procedure is done, medical professionals are able to utilize technology like the medi-units to finish the healing process, ensuring that someone returns to the streets rather quickly (as the healing would otherwise take a long time).

There are several surgeons in New Amsterdam who specialize in this work! They're typically aligned with the major hospitals in the city. If you want him to speak to a specialist, feel free to make up a NPC for this purpose (and add them to Cassian's network).

And yes, he would learn rather quickly that this kind of treatment is typically done in a medi-unit given the highly invasive nature of it. The assumption by most medical professionals would be that Cassian was unable to reach a medi-unit before the healing began, as someone does need to enter it within 24 hours. There is no reason for Cassian to believe that he would have been kept out of a medi-unit for that long (given the healing status of many of his Displaced comrades), so there is still a mystery to be solved!

Many of the public views with regards to cybernetics revolve around wanting to ensure that no one looks inhuman, so Cassian would find a lot of evidence of the cybernetics industry working closely with cosmetics companies to ensure that they look human.

Finally, we'll add that there was a small, small hint for your plot in the most recent event log! It ties in to the power loss and the medi-units! We think this will help shed some light on things.

Losing everything Matches Malone has won't effect him at all (jason effectively owns nothing (aside from his bike, which he'll put into loki's custody before this) so he definitely won't mind that and does anticipate it. He'll be taking the name Jason Todd with the ID switch, and will ask El to make sure it goes into effect before he takes off and starts causing havoc.

Jason would ask that the background given to "Jason Todd" be pretty average and normal: a normal family life, normal grades in school, maybe a background in some popular sport in high school, a normal career that ended approximately two or three weeks before El is assigning it to him. He'd hand over some stupidly mundane pictures of himself and Loki to backdate a social media account to around that time posting something about "finding himself" with the love of his life or some mushy shit like that.

Basically, he's using this as an excuse to completely go under cover during daytime hours. He'll get some colored contact lenses and style his hair different, change his body language and clothing style during the day to match, too. Look he's got some plans.

He will have Takeshi Kovacs and Caroline Forbes helping take down specific people within both gangs--most likely giving Caroline a few more names due to her enhanced speed and strength. Jason will let Gaby know that he'll try to keep the deaths to a minimum, and will instead focus on debilitating the gang members instead: causing injuries that even advanced tech won't be able to fix entirely, and will therefore take them out of commission (taking a few fingers, lobbing off a hand, injuring spines and digging knives into skulls at just the right spot to render them effectively braindead without murdering them. see, look! he can keep from murder) but he will let her know that he doesn't completely control the individuals he's working with. Jason will also not give them names of those that are working with him, since he's not tattling.

Going after other gangs is more of a longterm goal; for this specific plot, it would just be the Kings and the Warlocks. He'll also be leaving behind a note (in blood / carved into their skin / however he and Kovacs+Caroline can figure out) with the location to an abandoned building in the shittier area of town.

Where he'll be waiting, with a nice bag full of body parts collected off those they've taken down, in a nice new designed ID scrambler (even if he needs to use the blinding colors, he'll keep them under the red. look he's gotta be stylish it's important) that doesn't match up to any of the tech Morningstar has, and let them know he's their new leader, if they don't like it they can get the same treatment.

(Kovacs and Caroline will also have their own, he wouldn't leave them out)

And he'll start it off with some nice new ideas on how to get money going back into gangs (some nice companies to hit), the benefits of mashing them both together(which he knows will cause tension, he's looking forward to it) and promising them use of tech that'll help them get even more resources.

Jason is not above using his own new abilities to assist with this, too. He'll be wearing a very, very thick top to hide the blue glow, going so far as to wrap himself up with whatever it takes to get it to stop shining through. If anyone tries to fight back with him at his "meeting" of sorts, he'll use shadows as bullets / knives / mouth covers to shut them up. Not killing, but taking them out enough to keep them quiet.

Let me know if any of this doesn't work, and I'll figure something else out! Jason is running off the assumption both gangs wouldn't want to pull in law enforcement for gang business, if they would he'd have backup plans for that too.

And I'm not quite sure what timeline this would be running off of just yet, as it depends on Caroline+Marcos' thing, as well as when he's able to get the masks done. He's having Abel assist him in figuring out that tech, and I'll figure out a good date once I get a good portion of the bigger details figured out.

Hi Lindsey! We probably won't be able to get you a long answer before next Sunday, but we'd like some more information on why Jon is spying on the gangs! We tried to check our prior contact with you about this, but we couldn't find any reference to it. Feel free to point us in that direction if we missed anything!

Prior to what went down with Caroline and Marcos, the gangs had a more neutral stance when it came to Morningstar, and vice versa. This adversarial relationship is a direct result of what happened there, so any networking or contact with the gangs would have likely been just that: having shadier contacts for shadier deeds, at least when needed. We're sorry if we failed to explain this better before!

jon is just keeping an eye on the gangs for morningstar as a way of being useful as he builds his reputation and skillset as a bartender with the intention of eventually being able to work corporate events and collect information that way. We discussed this here! He's mostly watching gang members/leaders talk to each other and looking for evidence that they are planning anything that might pose a threat to morningstar or their interests, or anything that could threaten the city as a whole.

thus far, this is where we're at:

— caroline and marcos were both kidnapped and taken in. the gang members managed to catch her while she was distracted, and so she did not fight back immediately. they did choose to knock both out during transportation, so neither caroline nor marcos know where they're being held.
— they've been asked repeatedly about morningstar, their ties to morningstar, and why they were sent by morningstar, and both have denied involvement/claimed not to know anything. we are absolutely playing that the gangs do not believe them, and are vicious in attempting to get the truth out.
— neither caroline nor marcos really know how to "prove" they're not affiliated to morningstar other than repeatedly claim their innocence.
— since a specific location wasn't given for the facility, we've played with nondescript locations for now! i've described it as a concrete room, akin to an underground basement (though, full disclosure, we don't have basements in florida and i'm literally winging this).
update/question: we'd like to have caroline message jason with a (probably unfocused) picture of her surroundings and/or one of her interrogators. is it possible for him to recognize this location (though not necessarily recognize it correctly) OR for it to be recognizable to a contact of his? though my intention is to have caroline rescue herself, jason may send someone who's still in the new amsterdam area her way for help.

this is excellent and very well-compiled info, ty! sorry for the delayed response; i wanted to get my thoughts and ducks in order before trying to tackle what direction i might want to take this.

at the moment, i'm most interested in her beginning her own group. octavia isn't above using the blue glow in her chest to achieve progress with that if it inspires them to follow her, so she'd be trying to gain clout via that perk and her endurance/pain threshold/efficiency in the fighting rings. if that sounds like an okay start to get the ball slowly rolling forward, let me know!

with that said, i have a couple of questions! i apologize in advance that i have so many, but ty for all the good nuggets of info and suggestions to work with that you've given me.

1. would it be viable for octavia to recruit the unseen, the disenfranchised, street urchins etc among her ranks? she would be especially trying to appeal to those that don't believe they have a place, purpose, or voice in the world to give them one. i'm not sure what the street environment is like for things like common pickpockets, those that feel the UNA or other organizations have screwed them over, and if that would be a motivating factor in getting people to join her, especially if they're afraid.

she'd also be trying to lure other gang members and criminals over that have more experience by promising them safety from morningstar. idk how convincing this would be when trying to recruit when they're currently unified against them and when the glow in her chest can easily be confused for an affiliation with morningstar.

2. if the group starts to gain notice and clout, would they be under threat from the UNA and other groups that lump the displaced in with morningstar? octavia wouldn't be subtle about the glow in her chest and trying to use it to rally people around her, so i assumed that might ... eventually cause trouble ... which i'm more than fine with!

3. ty for the info on enforcers and merc work! i wasn't sure if there was any service like judge dredd or the hunters in battle angel alita etc etc but that info gives me another question and possible avenue! how possible would it be for octavia to make this an "enforcer" slash vigilante group of sorts? it'd be rough learning (learning to duck surveillance, like you mentioned, will be a curve) but octavia's motivation would be less wealth-based and more personal, going after targets she feels are corrupt or dangerous. i'd particularly like to give her an arc with redemption elements - learning to lead in a way that isn't wholly destructive to her and to the people that follow her - and tie in octavia's moral code / understanding of morality that leans very greek epic-based into it.

he'd definitely be up for using his placement in the tournament to further progress his reputation in the fighting rings and with those that hang out there. so, he'd play the role, do the deed, and if an offer for collusion was out there, he'd take it.

since he's been looking for an in with these guys for awhile, he'd take the meeting without hesitation and then take the job offer as well, meaning he'd quit the job he has now to focus on the whole enforcer gig in the hopes that doing well there will continue to get eyes on him for the future. he'd keep the side gig of fighting too because hey money and hey notoriety.

She'll accept his offer on the grounds that they're worthless to her if they get tracked down by the owners/manufacturer (and will say as much to avoid coming off as too naive in accepting his price), happy to do one another a favour in selling at a price that suits him.

Though she'll add that she's going to need compensating for her time and effort and that a drink should cover her fee, hoping to build a little on the foundations of the sale with a chance to sit down and make an impression.

Hi Shikki! You've got some questions and we've got some answers.

1. Yes, that's plausible, but funds – at least a down payment – would be needed to purchase the abandoned building. If they wanted to avoid detection, it would be best to find a way to pay the sum in whole as well as do it under the table. Since Thor's departure, Loki's inherited a lump sum of money that he was going to use to buy a gym. We suggest reaching out to Veronica for a quick turn-over on this one.

2. Morningstar has a few anonymous accounts set up with wholesalers, Damian can work through El to get something set up to fuel the supplies were needed, as long as the funds are channeled through them.

3. Body armor isn't something that's mainstream, so he wouldn't be able to find anyone that makes it normally, there's really no need. This is definitely something that he's going to need to find a black market proprietor for.

4. This is possible! There are two ways that he could go about this: legally and illegally. If he decides to go through it the legal route, he can take the opportunity to head into a government office and request a name change and fill out the forms. All of his former credits, online presence, housing, purchases, etc. would follow be transferred from the Hafid ID to the Damian ID.

If he decides to go the illegal route, he'd need to find a way to gain the trust of both Gaby and/or El. The illegal route requires assistance, and would disconnect everything from Hafid's account, including any resources tied to it. Damian would find that he has a no account, with all comments on the current network no longer associated with his ID. It would essentially be "new." Let us know how you'd like to follow up here!

But if he goes uses his underground fighter past as "Hafid" to gain recognition with the force, he'd have to frame it in a creative way, as in possibly trying to stop these rings. His name prior to his marriage to Aoi Maeda was Stephen Pak, and it they were made as a political match. While there are a few JPGs at Pulsar, none of them would have any close personal connection to Jovavich. Daisy would be able to find this out via hacking, as she won't discover anything more interesting than normal business communications and maybe a disciplinary action for falling asleep at work. Likewise, just searching for Jupiter won't reveal much more than people arguing over terraforming efforts. There is a rising set of voices that think terraforming Jupiter itself rather than one of its moons is foolish, since the moons would be far easier.

Jyn would be able to discover the history of past governors very easily. Unsurprisingly, the candidates all more or less follow the same pattern of being tightly connected to the corporations: former board members, CEO, etc. The length of their political careers vary. Jyn will not find any official publications denouncing this pattern; most commentary on it will point to the megacities being very insular.
