CANON UPDATES AND ITEM REQUESTS

> CANON UPDATES

Characters being updated mysteriously vanish at some point unobserved. When they return, they will wake up in their own bed with their new canon memories and any physical changes. They will not have any memory of how they vanished or where they may have been in that time. Players should feel free to use the IC disruption caused by this disappearance to change things up for their character! Or they could just have their friends cover for them.

For a day after returning, they will experience a dull burning sensation in their chest.

New characters are not eligible for a canon update until they're in the game for one OOC month.

To request a canon update for your character, please fill out the form below. Please do not have your character canon update in game until your request is approved.

> ITEM REQUESTS

Characters receiving items will wake up from a normal night's sleep to find themselves mysteriously holding the item. They'll remember nothing notable about their sleep.

Items are limited to one at a time, and they must hold some importance to your character. That means the item in question must be linked to your character in some tangible way.

Items cannot be alive or independently sentient. Items will not be nerfed unless it has a latent connection to your character in some way. If they can mentally teleport it across a room in canon to themselves, for instance, that won't be possible in game. The item will still retain any other properties, however.

Please wait at least one OOC month after your character's arrival in game before making any item requests. Players may only make one item request per character per month.

To request an item for your character, please fill out the form below. Please do not have your character receive the item in game until your request is approved.

CANON UPDATE

[personal profile] inherited 2020-05-06 06:47 pm (UTC)(link)
PLAYER NAME: Alison
CHARACTER NAME: Riku
CANON: Kingdom Hearts
CURRENT CANON POINT: End of KH3.
UPDATED CANON POINT: End of KH3: Remind DLC.
BACKGROUND: Link.
HOW WILL THIS IMPACT YOUR CHARACTER? Following Sora's disappearance at the end of KH3, he has been trying to guide the other keyblade wielders in a mission to find Sora. He's traveling all the worlds to keep tabs on what's happening. Kairi has put herself to sleep, Roxas and Xion are trying to help Sora via searching their memories, and Riku was there when Aqua, Terra, and Ventus entered the Realm of Darkness to look for answers. In this time, Riku has kept his own worries and thoughts to himself, internalizing them for the sake of the mission.

This stands in sharp contrast to how Riku handled the last time Sora was lost for a long time. Before, he was more ruthless, desperate to save his friend at any cost. Now, he's internalizing how he's feeling, not sharing his strange dreams with anyone else. He's keeping it together, but this tidbit shows that he's having a hard time. In fact, everyone is worried about him. He's growing as a person and becoming a leader, but is very controlled.

hi mods!

i'm not entirely sure, since they're a little vague about it! they do say that it takes knowledge to make the sword work and i do know that there are other characters who try to make it respond using chi and it doesn't, apparently that's not enough to activate it, but it is a big part of its manipulation.

i'd be more than happy to send you the episodes and times where these explanations appear!

I was thinking afterwards since I did have him doing some stuff before the sim hit, but if before is an option I'd be really interested to know the details!

CANON UPDATE

[personal profile] purrsistence 2020-05-25 02:37 pm (UTC)(link)
PLAYER NAME: Emiri
CHARACTER NAME: Catra
CANON: She-Ra and the Princesses of Power
CURRENT CANON POINT: End of s3
UPDATED CANON POINT: End of S4 E10 (aired November 2019, right before my original app lol, hence why I didn't use it as a canon point before!)
BACKGROUND: Here! Spoilers for season 4, obv! RONI DON'T READ THIS >8(.

HOW WILL THIS IMPACT YOUR CHARACTER? A lot happens between the end of season 3 and the end of season 4! For starters, it's probably the most obvious non-timeskip "timeskip" on the show to date-- annoyingly, SPOP is purposefully never very clear on dates or ages, so I can't give anything exact. But it's clear now that some amount of time has passed, enough for Catra's hair to get visibly longer and certain other characters to start to look slightly older. Rough estimates would be maybe between 6 months and a year.

The end of season 3 (the point where I grabbed Catra from in her original app) sees Catra fuck up big time and nearly destroy the world accidentally in her quest for revenge and power. However, instead of taking the opportunity to pause and reflect on where she went wrong, season 4 sees Catra refusing to confront her mistakes. At this point, Catra feels she has gone so far, there's no going back for her. It's easier to just swim down. So she doubles down and commits herself even further to villainy, unwilling to admit her mistakes. Her chaotic, mischievous nature begins to take a back seat as pressure mounts on her to provide results. Instead of enjoying her newfound power, instead of enjoying being a pain in everyone's ass, Catra becomes obsessed, serious and stressed. Rather than examine the guilt she feels at her actions in the previous season, she buries it. She focuses only on winning and nothing else. But that guilt eats away at her inside, subconsciously. She becomes angrier than ever. She forgets what it means to have fun. She pushes everyone around her away in her desperate attempt not to feel vulnerable again, and then feels paranoid that everyone hates her as a result of her bad behaviour. She becomes more and more desperate to win and to prove herself. Season 4 culminates with [ SPOILER TEXT: Catra successfully grabbing power, taking over Etheria, and getting just about everything she wants, only to realise too late that it has come at the price of all her relationships. Every single person in her life has truly, finally, completely abandoned her. She is utterly alone. ]

Back in Meadowlark! Fresh from the end of Season 3, having not been through her season 4 arc yet, the lack of immediate Horde pressure and home conflict initially allowed Catra some distance from her end of s3 canon point! It would be a stretch to say she made forward progress, but at the very least, she wasn't progressing immediately backwards. Catra was initially able to relax and chill out from the events at the end of s3 just the smallest amount. While she was still having nightmares about nearly ending the world, she was also enjoying and curious about all this new world had to offer, and having great fun being a gremlin again in a world that provided her with a clean slate. She was, at least in the beginning, starting to calm down and revert to her more relaxed, natural personality-- the one she had before she made the decision to commit herself wholesale to villainy.

But then Adora came along! And everything went to shit. Adora's presence in Meadowlark brought up all of Catra's old insecurities. Realising almost instantly that Adora didn't remember that they were enemies (owing to different canon points), Catra panicked and lied, going along with Adora's false memories of a world where they were still together. But far from helping Catra to chill out more, this only served to weigh on her further-- there's a part of her that knows it's wrong. And there's another part of her that desperately fears the day when Adora inevitably remembers, and realises Catra lied. Realises that they're enemies, and that she hates Catra. And even despite all that, Catra still can't own up to the truth. Much like her arc in season 4, Catra in Meadowlark has so far been unable to truly face the wrongs she's done to others (not just from Season 3 canon but also those in Meadowlark as well-- Rey, Adora, and Jason, to name a few) and instead has been desperately trying to avoid blame and responsibility. She has been increasingly finding that she's pretending everything is fine, while instead secretly spiraling downwards and feeling helpless to actually do anything about it. Unable to keep a lid on her guilt, anger or fear, and unable to truly reach out or ask for help, (because not only would that entail admitting fault, but that would also leave her vulnerable, and that's something she still can't tolerate) Catra has steadily become more cranky, unstable and purposefully mean. Much like in s4 canon, she has begun pushing people away and punishing anyone who tries to point out her flawed thinking or bad behaviour.

Basically, TLDR version: her trajectory over the last six months ended up unintentionally mirroring her season 4 arc! The idea is now that updating to near the end of season 4 won't be drastically altering her personality any now-- rather, I'm just giving her new information that will only be the "cherry on the top" of Catra's slow downward spiral. Or rather, not so slow, now. She needs to hit rock bottom before she can hope to go up again. So way down we go!

OTHER NOTES: Obv I don't expect for this to be able to happen during the simulation event! I'm throwing this up early in anticipation for after!

QUESTION: ... Do characters come back from their canon update with their new hair/clothes? Listen. This is very important to me.

Excellent, thanks mods!

Also no, her clothes aren't special! (Insert Marge Simpson "I just think they're neat" meme.) They even kind of go with ML's aesthetic!!

Also look, I just want to give an option for people who might want to avoid spoilers :(.

PLAYER NAME: Kas
CHARACTER NAME: Maine
ITEM REQUESTED: His dog tags. They include a plain piece of metal that functioned as his communicator in his last game, but it'll be completely useless here.
ITEM PROPERTIES: N/A
WHY IS THIS ITEM IMPORTANT TO YOUR CHARACTER? It's a physical link to his past in both Project Freelancer and his previous game. It provides tangible proof that he was in both places, which is something he kinda needs right now.

Canon update

[personal profile] magicalglowstick 2020-06-14 10:38 pm (UTC)(link)
PLAYER NAME: Nick
CHARACTER NAME: Fenris
CANON: Dragon Age
CURRENT CANON POINT: Post game
UPDATED CANON POINT: 7 years after DA2, ending of The Blue Wraith comic which is a continuation of his story post DA2
BACKGROUND: here!
HOW WILL THIS IMPACT YOUR CHARACTER?

Unlike Fenris at his current point, with this canon update, he'll have a deeper understanding of who he is as a person. He's not all the way there yet but he'll have gained his individuality after separating from the core group, despite how bitter he is about their parting ways. The name he earns as "The Blue Wraith" is a really good indicator of this; having spent many years hunting down slavers and freeing his people from servitude he managed to find his place in the world, no longer wandering about in the chaos following Kirkwall and the mage rebellion, a man with no idea where he was going or what to do with his newfound freedom. As it stands as of Blue Wraith, he's able to act, speak, and even stand with confidence in himself. He actually appears to be comfortable in his own skin, unlike how he is at his in DA2 where he is constantly looking over his shoulder all the time, hunched over and on the look out.

Unfortunately, Fenris is more wary of getting too close or traveling in groups since the Kirkwall crew disbanded. He never had so many people that he bonded with and so without this knowledge of how sometimes people drift apart, and how that's no one's fault, he ended up hurt the longer he dwells on it (at his canon point now he's still a little bitter, but it hasn't taken enough time to really sink in yet until now). He talks about how people will just "use you until they're done with you", which is also a sentiment that will be compounded on due to the betrayal of his elven companion, Shirallas, who had been helping Fenris free slaves as the Blue Wraith. Needless to say, the only thing keeping his trust from completely shattering is the new group he finds himself with, one of which is a Tevinter slave who he admits isn't like the others he's met, which shows he's still open to trust. Fenris also shows himself to be far more aggressive (somehow) in the comics. Perhaps because of his desperation for his mission. Either way, he does a lot more charging into places blindly and ready to cut people up with his sword.

As for physical changes, the only thing that really changes his his haircut and his armor is far more covered up and mirrors what he would likely choose for himself, as opposed to his slave armor that was meant to show off his markings and be intimidating. There's nothing special about the armor, unless you count pointy gloves and shoes.

PLAYER NAME: Court
CHARACTER NAME: Sora
CANON: Kingdom Hearts
CURRENT CANON POINT: End of Kingdom Hearts 3
UPDATED CANON POINT: End of Re:Mind DLC
BACKGROUND: Here!
HOW WILL THIS IMPACT YOUR CHARACTER? While Sora's original canon point took him from right as he'd decided he was going to use the Power of Waking to save Kairi, the Re:Mind DLC explores that journey. This actually involves Sora traveling back in time to retrace his steps (again) and collect the scattered shards of Kairi's heart to restore her. He receives more insight into Terra's struggles and also plays a part in awakening Roxas into a new body, though all of these tasks are done with the understanding that he is putting himself at great risk to bring Kairi back. He ultimately succeeds at this and is able to visit a few different worlds with Kairi, setting things right. This is all very precious to Sora, as he knows at this point that his time is short. He is told in no uncertain terms that he is going to disappear, and makes the choice anyway. After getting those last moments with Kairi, he vanishes, only to return to Meadowlark's world. This will affect how he views his time in-game, as he will now be even more convinced that there's no way for him to get home, so he needs to make the best of the extra time he's been granted.

CANON UPDATE (P5R Spoilers)

[personal profile] impede 2020-07-02 11:23 pm (UTC)(link)
PLAYER NAME: Alison
CHARACTER NAME: Goro Akechi
CANON: Persona 5
CURRENT CANON POINT: Right before his death in vanilla Persona 5.
UPDATED CANON POINT: After the events of Persona 5 Royal, up to and including the true ending.
BACKGROUND: Link!
HOW WILL THIS IMPACT YOUR CHARACTER? Most importantly: Goro Akechi is alive. Throughout his time in Meadowlark, he's assumed that he has nothing to go back to, and he doesn't have anything to live for there. In Meadowlark's world, he has slowly explored what he wants here: whether that's to chase politics, travel the world, or act as the necessary devil's advocate while he tries to undo the world at its seams. Coming back, he'll have to reconsider all of that. Does he want to return to reshaping and retaking his life in Tokyo, or continue here? This choice will be critical to Akechi, who believed he was on his father's puppet strings right before he died. He doesn't know how he managed to live and the game doesn't hint to that, but it does seem (several times over) that he did, in fact, live.

So, what now? Akechi will be in fierce control of himself, with only Ren having any influence over his actions or beliefs. The last part of Persona 5 Royal includes a quote about how Akechi refuses to live a life concocted by someone else. He'll want to make sure that the Displaced aren't living according to someone else's whims or control, and that may make him dive deeper into whatever's inside of his chest. He refuses to acknowledge that anyone can tell him what to do.

Control over himself will be critical. As a side effect, this will likely lead to him enforcing the autonomy of people around him. More than once he'll have sacrificed himself for what he believed to be the better outcome, and both times he didn't expect to come out in one piece. He'll be expecting that a third time won't go well.

Just the same, Akechi won't be more altruistic or caring. He'll have had more time in being himself, which means he'll be less likely to bother with the mirage that he wore for a while. He's forced people to settle into accepting the worst of him, so the mask will likely be off moving forward—with him playing it up to get under someone's skin should that prove necessary.

CANON UPDATE (P5R SPOILERS)

[personal profile] variate 2020-07-02 11:35 pm (UTC)(link)
PLAYER NAME: veronica
CHARACTER NAME: Ren Amamiya
CANON: Persona
CURRENT CANON POINT: "Good end" of Persona 5 (March 15th, 20XX)
UPDATED CANON POINT: "Good end" of Persona 5 Royal (March 15th, 20XX)
BACKGROUND: Right here.
HOW WILL THIS IMPACT YOUR CHARACTER? There are a few things that will go into this canon update. First and foremost, Persona 5 Royal is like a "director's cut" of Persona 5, which means that there was added content in the sequence of the game as well as the end. First and foremost, Ren will remember three new characters that were introduced during the duration of the game: Kasumi [Sumire] Yoshizawa, Takuto Maruki and Jose. In addition, he'll have new memories of the Phantom Thieves, as well as Goro Akechi, who was gifted with new content.

While these memories won't overtly make any large changes for Ren's personality, he'll have experiences and memories that are added from these events. Most notably there's extra content that designates a "third semester," where Maruki alters the reality of Tokyo and the Phantom Thieves. During this occurrence, Ren will need to pick perceived happiness from the hand of someone else writing over the hardships that he's faced to get where he is. He'll be more inclined toward finding and sticking with the hard truth rather than the idealistic, no matter how difficult the decision may be. While everyone he's faced before had their desires warped for the worse, he'll be aware of the difference in the nuance of control of someone's desires over someone else's, and how powerful someone's will can be. He'll also be extremely passionate about loosening the grip of anyone's control over anyone else's autonomy, and that includes those in ML's world.

Item Request

PLAYER NAME: Dee
CHARACTER NAME: Quentin Coldwater
ITEM REQUESTED: A standard 52 deck of cards
ITEM PROPERTIES: N/A.
WHY IS THIS ITEM IMPORTANT TO YOUR CHARACTER? Quentin used cards as magic tricks before he even found out he had real magic and his very first official magic trick with the Dean was with a card deck. He's a poker fan and he's been sad about lacking them to play games with his friends here. The significance for him will be he can start poker nights and get people to bond and learn how to play! He can also show off some of his non-magic tricks for fun.

ITEM REQUEST

PLAYER NAME: Dee
CHARACTER NAME: Marian Hawke
ITEM REQUESTED: The Bassrath-Kata dagger
ITEM PROPERTIES: N/A in this instance it'll just be a very good and well made silverite dagger!
WHY IS THIS ITEM IMPORTANT TO YOUR CHARACTER? This dagger is given to Hawke after the Lost Swords plot if she doesn't accept any reward. This plot is of significance to Hawke because she became the Champion after defeating the Arishok, something she didn't actually want to do but her hand was forced to protect Isabela. In some ways getting these lost swords for Taarbas was her showing respect for the Qunari even if they were essentially enemies. The dagger is given to Hawke because of not asking for any reward and due to the Arishok's mutual respect for her, and it's a big deal as the Qunari don't give their weapons out readily. It is an honor to carry one and she's been wishing for a weapon to protect people with here as well. It will remind her of her time as the Champion and the responsibility it carried, and give her something to fight with.
