Hi Brandon!

Scott's efforts to make the new Displaced feel welcome would be much appreciated, but in terms of funding all that Morningstar can provide is the stipends that each new arrival is given to help them get on their feet (mentioned in each arrival log). Anything done in addition to that would have to come from the Displaced themselves, as the safehouse essentially belongs to them.

As for pets, it is true that some of the mega-wealthy in New Amsterdam and other cities do have animals like dogs, cats, birds, and some reptiles. However, when it comes to hiring on vets, they would want someone who's got a lot of experience and who they feel they can trust, so it's unlikely that Scott would be able to get into this line of work right off the bat. If you want him to be able to work with animals, he would be able to get an entry level job at a place where these ultra-rich board their animals when they go on trips, whether for business, vacation, etc.

It wouldn't be very exciting work. There would be a lot of cleaning up poop, helping with feeding times, and at least a little bit of playing with the animals/taking dogs on walks/etc. However, this might be a means for Scott to slowly start to form a relationship with one of these pet-owners. He could also start working on a vet tech certification on the side!

Now for William's questions: Hacking is possible, but it'll take some figuring out for William to transfer his skills and knowledge. To be clear, the "network" or "neural network" that almost all public communication takes place on, such as the Cooltalk accounts, all general information people run into on a day to day basis, forums, news, etc., is just the internet. This is separate from the network the characters use to communicate, which is run by Morningstar (and more specifically, El). The Morningstar network is run on the internet, but works off a private server and acts more like a forum for the PCs to interact.

William's ability to hack into certain systems will vary widely depending on what he's hacking into. Getting access to someone's Cooltalk account will be much easier than getting access to the UNA's databases, for example. The Morningstar network will also be impossible for William to crack, and he'll be dealing with El in that instance. Since El is a security AI, zeir encryption is top notch. William won't have a lot of luck there.

As for learning, William will absolutely be able to teach himself how current technology works through online workshops, his own tinkering and research, etc. There's not going to be any sort of apprenticeship or certificate process that will teach him to hack—that's shady stuff, and more the purview of the underground. There are some gangs, like the Hi-Jacks, that focus solely on hacking, but they won't take him under their wing out of the kindness of their hearts. He'll have to grab their attention by performing some relatively impressive hacks himself. If he wants, he can also get a job with Vyonation, but he will need to start at the entry level and work his way up.

There aren't any "old tech" repair shops anywhere anymore! All of the technology from the 21st and 22nd centuries are considered the realm of academia.
