CANON UPDATES AND ITEM REQUESTS

> CANON UPDATES

Characters being updated mysteriously vanish at some point unobserved. When they return, they will wake up in their own bed with their new canon memories and any physical changes. They will not have any memory of how they vanished or where they may have been in that time. Players should feel free to use the IC disruption caused by this disappearance to change things up for their character! Or they could just have their friends cover for them.

For a day after returning, they will experience a dull burning sensation in their chest.

New characters are not eligible for a canon update until they're in the game for one OOC month.

To request a canon update for your character, please fill out the form below. Please do not have your character canon update in game until your request is approved.

> ITEM REQUESTS

Characters receiving items will wake up from a normal night's sleep to find themselves mysteriously holding the item. They'll remember nothing notable about their sleep.

Items are limited to one at a time, and they must hold some importance to your character. That means the item in question must be linked to your character in some tangible way.

Items cannot be alive or independently sentient. Items will not be nerfed unless it has a latent connection to your character in some way. If they can mentally teleport it across a room in canon to themselves, for instance, that won't be possible in game. The item will still retain any other properties, however.

Please wait at least one OOC month after your character's arrival in game before making any item requests. Players may only make one item request per character per month.

To request an item for your character, please fill out the form below. Please do not have your character receive the item in game until your request is approved.

PLAYER NAME: trace
CHARACTER NAME: takeshi kovacs
ITEM REQUESTED: this very snazzy backpack (empty of all contents)
ITEM PROPERTIES: it's just a backpack. it's got some sentimental value but otherwise, it's just a regular backpack
WHY IS THIS ITEM IMPORTANT TO YOUR CHARACTER? after being pulled out of his watery prison, this backpack was one of the first things that kovacs bought when he was alive again, basically. at the time, it was filled with various drugs and after he used all those up, he continued to carry it, filling it with weapons and the like. it became pretty synonymous with him and he refused to give it up or leave it behind a few times here and there.

PLAYER NAME: jenna
CHARACTER NAME: daisy johnson / [personal profile] evite
ITEM REQUESTED: her hula girl statue ( exhibits a & b — no visual spoilers )
ITEM PROPERTIES: it's your generic car dashboard dancing hula girl. no special abilities whatsoever.
WHY IS THIS ITEM IMPORTANT TO YOUR CHARACTER? the hula girl is one of the few physical possessions that daisy retains throughout her arc on the show. originally a gift from fitzsimmons (and gifted back to her again after it was rescued from the bus), it's a tangible reminder of the home she's left behind and the team that's on it — and the friend who's now left her behind.

i mostly just want her to have it for some angst, if i'm honest.

CANON UPDATE

[personal profile] strove 2019-07-17 03:39 pm (UTC)(link)
PLAYER NAME: Alison
CHARACTER NAME: Clarke Griffin
CANON: The 100
CURRENT CANON POINT: 5x1, right before she hears Madi
UPDATED CANON POINT: 6x10, right after Bellamy saves her life. (This aired last night, but it'll be a week by time it's approved.)
BACKGROUND: Season 5 and season 6 | Episode summaries
HOW WILL THIS IMPACT YOUR CHARACTER? The biggest change will be that Clarke will be six years older and she'll consider herself the mother of a girl that she adopted: Madi. Clarke will be 24 and some change, but 149 years old chronologically because she spent a great deal of time in a cryostasis chamber. (Her daughter is 12, so she raised her from six years old.)

Other than that, Clarke has gone through a lot. She had six years of peace, but these proved to be a lie in terms of her finding inner peace. The moment the cataclysmic changes returned to her life after she lived in a veritable Eden, she quickly turned back toward her troubling ways: manipulating people, killing someone to stop a war, and bulldozing other people along the way to get what she wants. In the process, she also hurt her own daughter more than once to keep her from getting hurt or killed. The end result of this is that Clarke has to recognize that her daughter can handle herself. And in the process, Clarke embraces her Wanheda identity, does another bit of side switching (she does this a lot in season five in the name of saving Madi and protecting her), and ends up saving humanity. Again.

Rightfully, however, people are pissed at Clarke. They end up going into cryosleep for over a hundred years while their friend Monty tries to find them a new place to live. And he does: he sends the ship holding everyone asleep to the moon called Sanctum.

Monty wakes everyone up and delivers a message to Clarke: do better. Be better. Clarke takes this lesson to heart, and she starts going on an apology tour. However, this tour comes to an abrupt end when it turns out that the people of Sanctum love to do body theft of people with black blood. Clarke "dies," seemingly gone from her mind, as a sociopath named Josephine comes in. Josephine is bad news: she's talked about using eugenics to further her people, she's willing to kill in petty revenge, and she openly manipulates people while gladly holding on to a body that did not consent to giving herself over. She's a piece of work and pretty irredeemable. (Pretty irredeemable because ... Clarke has her own issues with things.)

Except! It turns out that Josephine isn't the only one home. Clarke is sitting in her head content to be dead when it turns out she was never dead, just hanging on. Clarke is about to give up her life after Josephine manipulates her into thinking she should give her people a break from, well, her. After all, a big part of Clarke in season six is that she sees herself as a cancer, a tumor, one that needs to be cut out and removed. She thinks to herself that it's time for her to sacrifice for her people. If she's gone, wouldn't it be better? Wouldn't it be her time to give up? (The reality is that Clarke has sacrificed tons of things for her people, including and especially her own humanity.)

A part of her subconscious surges through and gets her to cut that shit out. It's in the form of the same guy who told Clarke and everyone else to do better: Monty Green. He works with Clarke in her subconscious to give her a foothold and ability to keep going. She sends a message to her people, and they start doing what they can to get her back.

In those brief moments of seeing Clarke after she holds on, we see a Clarke that is both all too willing to find the good in monsters—she's even willing to find something good in Josephine, giving her a chance at redemption and to do better—while Clarke herself is still just as brutal as ever. She takes over and kills a bunch of dudes with brutal certainty. And when she's being taken over by Josephine in her mind, she finds the strength to lash out and kill Josephine even after all of that. (Josephine, certified horrible person that she is, betrays Clarke when they're going to separate for good.)

After all of this, Clarke is calmer and more chill, but just as decisive and direct when she needs to get stuff done. She's still Clarke—but more mature and more mindful of her actions. Somewhat. It really depends, but she's got a bigger head for consequences. She can be pushed in both directions depending on what's going on. And her apology tour was really inspired by her need to make up for what she did before. She's still Clarke. She's just a Clarke driven by the need to do better.

Clarke has nearly died again at the end of this episode, and may (read: will) need some treatment in a medi-unit to get back up and kicking because of the damage done to her brain and her body. But she should be good to go after that.

Clarke also had a brief moment of showing skills that she picked up from Josephine—motorcycle riding, biological knowledge, a handling of the languages of the world—but given the logic of The 100, it's doubtful that she'd be able to hold on to these after Josephine was kicked out for good. I will touch back here if next week's episode shows differently. EDIT: Clarke doesn't have these skills!

Oh, Clarke will also have a new haircut. Or the same haircut? WHO KNOWS.

ITEM PROPERTIES: it has kevlar laced into all the important bits, making it a little harder to punch through than most fabrics! other than that, it's just clothes.
WHY IS THIS ITEM IMPORTANT TO YOUR CHARACTER? it's part of his identity of red hood, who jason has, at his current canon point, been for quite a few years. he claims it easier than he claims being jason most the time. also it's comfy

who doesn't like comfy

PLAYER NAME: Shikki
CHARACTER NAME: Damian Wayne
ITEM REQUESTED: His unmodified one piece Nightwing Suit.

ITEM PROPERTIES: Damian's Nightwing suit is pretty mucch your standard superhero outfit. I'm gonna be honest and say I have no idea what the hell it's made out of, but google says it's kevlar lined. There are some metal bits on the shoulders and chest. This is what it actually looks like in motion.

So, all in all. No magical properties.
WHY IS THIS ITEM IMPORTANT TO YOUR CHARACTER? It's heavily implied that Damian stole the Nightwing suit a year or so after Dick's death and just kept it somewhere hidden.

Damian officially inherits the Nightwing suit in near the beginning of Year 5 of Injustice. This is his absolute lowest point. He hates himself, he has no idea what he's doing and has lost all direction, and is more or less seeking a heroic death to deal with the guilt of killing Dick. On the day of his eighteen birthday he runs headlong into Bludhaven and a the attacks the collective of criminals hiding there, intending to bring them in. They overwhelm him and nearly kill him, and would have, were it not for Dick Grayson's ghost possessing one of them and beating the shit out of the rest. Dick then radios the rest of the Regime to come save Damian, mails him the box containing the suit, and tries to use it to give Damian a new purpose and stop destroying himself.

So Damian becomes Nightwing and destroys other people instead of himself.

PLAYER NAME: Alison
CHARACTER NAME: Clarke Griffin
ITEM REQUESTED: The missing art from Clarke's sketchbook.
ITEM PROPERTIES: Most of these pages were pulled out and hung around Clarke and Madi's home during their six years in isolation. The art all comes from the same sketchbook, so it's like giving the sketchbook a canon update. Except without them appearing in the sketchbook itself.
WHY IS THIS ITEM IMPORTANT TO YOUR CHARACTER? In order to share stories with Madi about life before the second apocalypse, Clarke drew pictures. These stories show everyone in Clarke's life to be a hero, while Clarke discounts her involvement a lot. There is a lot of art of her daughter, Madi. This practice was later reflected in Clarke's mindspace, wiht the art covering all the walls of the different rooms of her mind.

WHY IS THIS ITEM IMPORTANT TO YOUR CHARACTER? it was a gift from illya and even when the truth came out that gaby had lied to them from the start, he asked her to keep it, offering his forgiveness for her choices. it's very important to gaby as a sign of their friendship and what... could have been. it's also useful as it is a bug.

ITEM PROPERTIES: made by stefan salvatore, the necklace's pendant houses a liquid concentration of vervain, a substance poisonous to vampires that protects the wearer from compulsion. since compulsion is so-far nerfed in game, it's mostly just a pretty necklace. it will, however, still burn her should she choose to touch it!
WHY IS THIS ITEM IMPORTANT TO YOUR CHARACTER? a gift from elena intended to protect her (and the last one she received as a human), it is a tie to her humanity and a reminder of the friends and family she left behind.

special question: as vervain does cause physical harm to vampires who touch it, will caroline experience any pain from the "release" of the item or afterwards (ie it resting against bare skin while she sleeps?)

PLAYER NAME: emma
CHARACTER NAME: jyn erso
ITEM REQUESTED: jyn's blaster; stolen from cassian andor's personal belongings
ITEM PROPERTIES: per the wookiepedia: the a-180 blaster is configured as a blaster pistol that fires bolts of intense plasma energy, often mistaken as lasers. operating under the same principles as laser weaponry, blasters converted energy-rich gas to a glowing particle beam that could melt through targets. they could deliver variable levels of damage intensity, from stun to kill settings. they also could hit with great frictional or even explosive force, allowing a bolt to kill on impact even if the target is armored. some blaster hits could cause bleeding instead of burning, or could do both, with the explosive force causing other damage around the wound. despite their blazing concussive blasts, those ranged energized particle weapons could be countered by magnetic seals and deflector shields.
WHY IS THIS ITEM IMPORTANT TO YOUR CHARACTER? jyn arrived on yavin 4 with only the clothes on her back (and her crystal) and before she and cassian leave for jedha, she is given (or finds) more suitable clothes and a bag for her things. she is pointedly not given a blaster but when cassian goes to speak with draven, jyn rifles through his bag and finds his spare, which she takes. later, when he realizes, jyn lies right to his face and says she found it (the audacity of this birch) and then has the sheer chutzpah to tell cassian that trust goes both ways when she straight up stole from him. either way, cassian does trust her with the weapon and she holds on to it all the way until scarif when she finally loses it. it is the precious first piece of their friendship.

CANON UPDATE

PLAYER NAME: Shikki
CHARACTER NAME: Damian Wayne
CANON: Injustice
CURRENT CANON POINT: After Bruce breaks his arm
UPDATED CANON POINT: Injustice 2 issue 50, while waiting to be executed by Gorilla King Solomon
BACKGROUND: here
HOW WILL THIS IMPACT YOUR CHARACTER? It's been about two years for Damian since he arrived in New Amsterdam. He'll be coming in at 21 instead of 19. Damian has met Kara Zor-El and freed Wonder Woman from the Amazons, and has started formulating a plan to break Superman out of prison and re-establish the Regime. He's touched base with Black Adam and restrengthened that alliance.

Thanks to his friendship with Kara, Damian has started to remember that he's more than a solider taking orders and has started to push back when he feels things are wrong. Unfortunately! That means betraying his biological family, which is a death sentence. Once he accepts readily. He's ready to die if it means actually living for himself again.

Damian's got his fire back. It's still mostly fueled by anger, and will worsen significantly after he ends up in prison again, but he also remembers what it was like to lay your life on the line because it's the right thing to do. He recognizes that he's helped Ra's do something terrible and will stop at nothing to set it right.

(not that it matters because his whole family is about to be murdered in a few issues but, y'know)

On return he'll lose some of that defeatist attitude he's been carrying around and will throw himself fully into the creation and establishment of the Justice League and getting to the bottom of things.

WHY IS THIS ITEM IMPORTANT TO YOUR CHARACTER? He literally spent the first year of his life wearing it every day. It'll just make him feel more comfortable. Also, the hood is useful for when he feels like being Dramatic and hiding his face.

CANON: the gifted
CURRENT CANON POINT: season 2, episode 9
UPDATED CANON POINT: season 2, end of episode 13
BACKGROUND: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Gifted_(season_2)#Episodes
HOW WILL THIS IMPACT YOUR CHARACTER? when marcos was taken out of the mutant underground and deposited into new amsterdam, he was at one of his lowest points. his former girlfriend had taken his nearly newborn daughter away from him and he'd had to leave his friend behind with a dangerous group, hellbent on killing all mutants and anyone connected to them.

during this canon update, marcos will return to his friends and be reassured that they are okay and be detrimental to rescue his best friend, john. he'll also form a tenuous friendship of a sort with lorna when they team up to achieve a common end goal of getting john free and putting down the purifiers. because of his ties in new amsterdam, that association won't turn romantic but it will settle him and relieve him of some of his anger towards lorna for what she's done.

it'll also remind him that he has other abilities (not of a supernatural origin) that he can use to get information from people. he falls back a bit on his cartel background while interrogating a dangerous mercenary mutant brought in by the inner circle for reasons as yet unknown. marcos and lorna begin spying on the leader of the inner circle, reeva, which leads to the interrogation wherein marcos gets shot and then kills max, the mercenary mutant.

when marcos returns, he's going to be even more dedicated to helping people that can't help themselves and to putting himself in front of those people and being that barrier between them and those that want to do them harm. he'll also be a little less angry at lorna and therefore the world. he's still going to miss his daughter something fierce but he'll feel more focused on a purpose here and be more determined to get it going as soon as he can.

canon update.

[personal profile] evite 2019-11-24 03:50 am (UTC)(link)
PLAYER NAME: jenna
CHARACTER NAME: daisy johnson / [personal profile] evite
CANON: agents of shield / mcu
CURRENT CANON POINT: 4.22, world's end
UPDATED CANON POINT: 5.22, the end (yes, there's a theme)

BACKGROUND: episode summaries may be best here. the mcu wiki is also useful.

HOW WILL THIS IMPACT YOUR CHARACTER? overall, the jump from season 4 to season 5 is about steadiness. daisy grows up, in a lot of ways — most of them traumatic, painful experiences, but she grows up all the same. not only does she have to make terrible, tragic decisions (letting her father figure die to save the world, for one) but daisy has to move forward after others make decisions for and about her (coulson icing her to drag her back to the future, fitz operating on her without her consent to remove her power inhibitor). the stakes get higher, and so, daisy must rise with them.

that said, the differences aren't so great. she's still the same person she's always been, but she's a little more grown-up daisy. she's calmer in the face of disaster, more capable of biting her tongue when things get heated; instead of lashing out with her words or her powers when she's cornered, daisy has begun to learn to think like an agent. she plays the long game now, if she has to, rather than busting down doors or blowing out windows. being placed, even temporarily, in a position of leadership has taught her to weigh the pros and cons, to be willing to self-sacrifice in the name of the greater good, and to exploit even the most unlikely opportunities if it means finding the right way out.

a few bullet-points of relevant experiences & changes:
"destroyer of worlds"
she's advised of a prophecy that foretells her using her inhuman abilities to physically shatter the earth apart, and as a result, daisy goes to whatever lengths necessary to try and prevent that future from happening, to the point where she offers to sacrifice herself in the future so that she won't be around to make the prophecy come true.

enslavement by the kree
as said destroyer of worlds, daisy is a prized asset that is quickly captured and enslaved by the ship's resident kree overlord, kasius. she's outfitted with a power inhibitor (presumably the same one used on carol danvers while under service to the kree as vers), surgically implanted in her head and connected to her nervous system. she also encounters other inhumans who are enslaved under these devices, and is forced to fight some of them to the death for her own survival.

nonconsensual surgery
while daisy was obviously upset about the loss of her powers, the fact that she could not access them upon return to the present timeline was a relief in the wake of learning about her prophetic destruction of earth. she insisted on keeping the inhibitor in until they could be certain that the prophecy was cancelled out — but upon returning to the present with her team, it was under the hand of fitz (in the middle of a psychotic break, acting as his alter-ego the doctor) that daisy was drugged, restrained, and then operated on while fully conscious, begging him to stop.

save the dad?
daisy's first pseudo-dad figure, phillip j coulson, had a rough life. when loki killed him, his body became infected; when shield resurrected him via the tahiti procedure, it placed a metaphorical bandaid over the bullet-wound, keeping him alive. unfortunately, coulson's temporary deal with the ghost rider burned through all of that metascience mumbo jumbo... which, come season 5, now leaves him slowly dying without a cure. daisy, obviously, refuses to let that happen. she goes to the ends of the earth (quite literally) to obtain the last remaining vial of the centipede serum — the same stuff that kept john garrett alive despite all odd — only to find it missing one crucial, critical ingredient: jiaying. that's not a plant, or a place. that's daisy's now dead biomom, formerly incapable of regenerative abilities, whose blood and body had been used in hydra experimentation to prolong life and cure disease once upon a time. she's dead now, a couple seasons' worth of it... so to get at it, daisy does the totally normal thing and digs up her mom's grave. that's definitely not going to leave a mark on her psyche or anything.

or save the world
unfortunately, there's never just one crisis. while daisy's hellbent on saving coulson, the team discovers a new problem: general talbot has decided to absorb the world's supply of gravitonium to make himself into a superhero capable of defeating imminently arriving super-villain thanos... only nobody's told the team who thanos is or why it's a problem, so the natural shield response is to stop him. when coulson refuses to take the serum and may destroys the odium, daisy's left with only one option — she injects the centipede serum into herself, knowing full well it may have disastrous if not fatal results, and goes after talbot herself. with her enhanced abilities, daisy manages to quake talbot into space, thus officially changing the timeline and preventing the very prophecy she tried to sacrifice herself to avoid.

NOTE: i touched on this in plot engagement, but want to clarify — what, if anything, will register on daisy's ring and its embedded tracking device as far as her disappearance/reappearance is concerned? also, because i can't remember: will she have memories of new amsterdam etc while back in "reality" or no?

CANON UPDATE

PLAYER NAME: V.
CHARACTER NAME: The OA / Prairie Johnson / Nina Azarova
CANON: The OA
CURRENT CANON POINT: 1x08
UPDATED CANON POINT: 2x08, not quite end of episode.
BACKGROUND: A wiki link for you!
HOW WILL THIS IMPACT YOUR CHARACTER? The game has already effectively given her confirmation that her beliefs about alternate realities are true, but the canon update will cement some of her convictions as to how these alternate realities function, as well as some of the ways people can travel between them. She'll be more sure of herself; having access to Nina's memories makes it easier to be a little less skittish around other people.

S2 also gives OA a better sense of how she can function independently of her found family; she comes out of her experiences cagier and a little better able to obscure her own strangeness, as well as more confident in her ability to act with agency. Otherwise she's not much changed -- still stubborn, still determined, still kind. Her faith is shaken in some ways: travel doesn't look like she'd imagined it would, and reality is more complicated than she and the other captives had hoped. On the other hand, she now has absolute proof that her understanding of the multiverse was near enough to true, and that's more than enough to keep her going.

The events of the second season also impart some difficult lessons -- OA has always struggled with her own darker impulses, and she has a far better sense now of her own weaknesses: her intransigence, the ways in which she's presumptuous, the ways in which her singleminded dedication to her goals can hurt those around her. Going forward, she'll be wrestling with these things all the more.

Having access to Nina's memories also gives her an entire lifetime of new experiences upon which to draw; having learned to integrate her selves will allow her another perspective on a life she could have lived, much in the way the Zerzura event did in-game. While she cannot divorce herself entirely from the history she feels to be most thoroughly her own, this repository of memories will provide her with new ways of approaching the world and other people -- Nina is confident, bold, sensual, hedonistic, demanding; all things that OA as Prairie was not allowed to be, and knowing what these things feel like will make her better able to enact them in future.

Physical changes would be weird to integrate given the way all of this works in the show, so instead of going with the way it works in canon (since she's literally no longer occupying the same body) I'm going to say that she's either got a (healed) gunshot wound to the chest, in the way new characters have their injuries treated, or no physical changes at all, depending on what makes the most sense to y'all. I'm pretty equanimous.
