CANON UPDATES AND ITEM REQUESTS

> CANON UPDATES

Characters being updated mysteriously vanish at some point unobserved. When they return, they will wake up in their own bed with their new canon memories and any physical changes. They will not have any memory of how they vanished or where they may have been in that time. Players should feel free to use the IC disruption caused by this disappearance to change things up for their character! Or they could just have their friends cover for them.

For a day after returning, they will experience a dull burning sensation in their chest.

New characters are not eligible for a canon update until they're in the game for one OOC month.

To request a canon update for your character, please fill out the form below. Please do not have your character canon update in game until your request is approved.

Characters receiving items will wake up from a normal night's sleep to find themselves mysteriously holding the item. They'll remember nothing notable about their sleep.

Items are limited to one at a time, and they must hold some importance to your character. That means the item in question must be linked to your character in some tangible way.

Items cannot be alive or independently sentient. Items will not be nerfed unless it has a latent connection to your character in some way. If they can mentally teleport it across a room in canon to themselves, for instance, that won't be possible in game. The item will still retain any other properties, however.

Please wait at least one OOC month after your character's arrival in game before making any item requests. Players may only make one item request per character per month.

ITEM PROPERTIES: It's an Altean (see: special aliens with magical powers) weapon that changes according to the item's holder. For Keith, it can become a sword or a large blaster. He's also able to teleport it across a room, and utilize it inside of his lion to tap into the other realm that the lion's magic exists on. He obviously won't be able to do either of these things, presumably finding both limited. If someone else takes the bayard, it'll take on a weapon of importance to them (for Lotor, it becomes a sword; for Zarkon, it becomes a number of different weapons).
WHY IS THIS ITEM IMPORTANT TO YOUR CHARACTER? Keith first saw the black bayard as being Shiro's, and he took a long journey to accept it as his own. The fact that it'll come by to him is evidence of his leadership position and growth as an individual. Zarkon tried to call his growth and drive an end result of being Galra, but the truth is that Keith has always wanted to do good in the world, and it's what's made him a natural leader for Voltron. He doesn't have any feelings like he has to conquer anything or be in charge. He doesn't blindly charge forward for selfish reasons. These values are what made the Black Lion accept Shiro fully, and then Keith later on, recognizing that mindset in both of them.

WHY IS THIS ITEM IMPORTANT TO YOUR CHARACTER? As a gift given by Bonnie shortly after Caroline's transformation, it is both a tangible reminder of her agreement to maintain her humanity and the physical link to the human world (allowing her to walk in the sun).

ITEM PROPERTIES: while kyber crystals are force-attuned (inherently to the light side) and used to power jedi lightsabers, jyn's is both occluded and etched so it would have no useful function in that respect. it does however respond to the touch of living things, growing warm without actually changing in temperature.
WHY IS THIS ITEM IMPORTANT TO YOUR CHARACTER? jyn's father studied kyber for her entire childhood and her mother gave the necklace to her before she died and jyn hasn't taken it off since, she forewent smuggling a weapon into prison in order to keep the necklace. it is the only physical reminder she has of her parents.

ITEM REQUESTED: Chenqing, his bamboo flute! ( Pictured in his hand. )
ITEM PROPERTIES: Besides being a masterfully-crafted and beautiful bamboo flute, Chenqing was known as the "ghost flute", used to extend his control and mastery over resentful corpses and spirits. Named items hold a sort of "spirit"/elevated status in which they can recognize and be used by only their master, but not a sentience, in his canon so it was definitely more powerful than any old purchasable/crafted flute, but always as an extension of his own powers.
WHY IS THIS ITEM IMPORTANT TO YOUR CHARACTER? After Wei Wuxian gave up his golden core ( the root of his powers! ), he lost the ability to use his sword, Suibian - another named item that he could formerly channel his powers through. Thus, Chenqing became his favored weapon and defense of choice, serving him throughout the length of a brutal and painful civil war. Chenqing is iconically tied to him by history and people's memories, as the two go hand-in-hand in local legend and lore.

WHY IS THIS ITEM IMPORTANT TO YOUR CHARACTER? The white Mauser is a memento of his sister, Lily, to whom the gun belonged. Heine has added a white chain to it which he uses to strangle or wrap around the opponents' limbs, when he fight.

WHY IS THIS ITEM IMPORTANT TO YOUR CHARACTER? jon's old mentor and lord commander, jeor mormont, gave him the sword after jon saved his life from a wight--the old handle, a bear, had melted, so mormont had a new one made to resemble jon's wolf, ghost. jon promised him he wouldn't lose it, and jon is VERY ANXIOUS about not having it here with him!! mormont was later killed, and longclaw is all jon has left to remember him by. it's also a very nice memento of ghost, who jon misses very much.

WHY IS THIS ITEM IMPORTANT TO YOUR CHARACTER? Rey made this doll for herself out of scrap so she'd have a toy and/or comfort item while surviving alone on Jakku for 15 years. She left it behind on Jakku when she escaped with Finn and BB-8, along with her like 5 other belongings. It's one of the only things she's owned at all.

ITEM PROPERTIES: It's a sketchbook! She starts drawing in it to remember big moments from her life. She has sketches of people like Lexa in there, too.
WHY IS THIS ITEM IMPORTANT TO YOUR CHARACTER? As an artist that specializes in sketching, this is really important to Clarke. Her ties to her home and the memories of her people are all bound in these, and I used the sketchbook as a constant point of symbolism in her dreamscape. In canon, it's a recurring thing that she grounds herself in memory, the people in her life, and more. Recently, she heard that someone she deeply cares about went to another world (panfandom game), and felt the need to do messages to someone. Having a sketchbook to draw Her People and keep them close will continue this theme of memory.

ITEM PROPERTIES: a family ring with a lapis lazuli gemstone that has been enchanted by a witch to allow its wearer to walk among humans in the daylight, preventing a vampire from bursting into flames.
WHY IS THIS ITEM IMPORTANT TO YOUR CHARACTER? The ring itself is a family heirloom that has been in Damon's family for 170 some odd years, so it holds sentimental value ( regardless of his mixed bag of feelings in regard to his family ) though it serves more of a functional purpose in day-to-day life. It means he can get a day job and participate in more activities and events during the day and it also alleviates suspicion to those that are aware of the supernatural to see him walking in the sun. For Damon, it's everything. It's survival.

WHY IS THIS ITEM IMPORTANT TO YOUR CHARACTER? It's something he's been shown to wear in every single appearance that he has. While it hasn't yet been explained where the necklace came from / who gave it to him, it's clearly something he treasures since he always has it on. It's just a part of his look!

ITEM REQUESTED: Wangji, his guqin. Here's a nice gif of him with it here.
ITEM PROPERTIES: Much like Wei Wuxian's Chenqing, Wangji is also a spiritual weapon that recognizes and can only be utilized by those it is tied to. Wangji is used for a variety of tasks in canon, from offense to defense to investigation. Gusulan is known for its music-based cultivation methodologies and as a student of that sect, Lan Wangji naturally uses Wangji for quieting/temporarily subduing, speaking to (which I know is not allowable here for ghosts, though he's also demonstrated using it with half-dead subjects!), and/or battering (via Chord Assassination) spirits and/or other physical entities. Specifically, the latter is with the other two (Chord Assassination and Rest). Silence (or the ability to temporarily mute a subject), however, can also be extended through Wangji, but doesn't require it. The strings can also be removed and used for garroting.

Also? Wangji's just a beautiful guqin. It can also just be used for playin' some sweet tunes.

WHY IS THIS ITEM IMPORTANT TO YOUR CHARACTER? Lan Wangji is generally a recognizable figure in canon, but Wangji (and his sword, Bichen) is associated with him just as much as his title (Hanguang-jun) is. It also holds value as a representation of his origins (as being one from the Cloud Recesses) and also as an object of sentimentality/history (it is the one he played Inquiry on for all of those years, but the guqin's strings are also what he first played Wangxian on).

CURRENT CANON POINT: S5:E5 Rewind
UPDATED CANON POINT: S6:E3, just as he and his protocol droid are escaping a shady alien club ( shield got weird, man ).
BACKGROUND: BASICALLY or S6 EPISODE SUMMARIES ( for SPOILER reasons, Fitz has zero memory/experience of S5 after his canonpoint, so it doesn’t apply to this update! )
HOW WILL THIS IMPACT YOUR CHARACTER? At his old canonpoint, Fitz had just entered cryosleep with the expectation of awakening in a ruined future 74 years beyond the MCU present.

At his new canonpoint, Fitz has been rudely awakened from cryosleep by aliens blowing his ship in half, sending him and his robot +1 (Enoch) on the run through deep space — trying to survive and find another way to get him to the future. They’ve been at this for a year, leaping in and out of trouble, with only each other for proper company. At this stage, Fitz has developed in a similar manner to his ML arc. One of Fitz’s core flaws is that he puts his loved ones (namely Jemma) above all else, often at the expense of innocent people. At this point, he has finally re-learned to empathise with others. With Enoch, he learns to value his friend as an equal and work alongside someone who isn’t Jemma.

In general, his time in space has proven that Fitz capable and adaptable on his own. As someone who has always doubted his ability to be alone and survive in the field, particularly after his #badend in S4, this is a huge boost for his confidence in his skills and morals. He even risks his life (and by extension, Jemma and the team’s, who he believes need him in the future), to save a crew of people who just sold him out. Fitz states this is because he wants to a different type of man this time — one who does what’s right.

However, this doesn’t mean he has relinquished the darker aspects of his personality. On the contrary, he now actively weaponises his HYDRA experience to predict and counter his foes. When facing an enemy, Fitz offers them a chance at redemption, but when they reject it, he’s still willing to kill them. Basically, this means Fitz is honing his self-control. While he veers into dangerous territory in S5, S6 shows that he can find a balance between the old do-gooding Fitz and the more ruthless man he is now. Most importantly, he tells Enoch he has “time” to wait for Jemma and help people in the present, if that’s where he’s needed.

Additionally, he has a year of experience with alien, futuristic technology now, including time as a spaceship crewman and engineer. Pretty handy! Physically, he’ll lose the beard :’(

PLAYER NAME: Ellie
CHARACTER NAME: Peggy Carter
ITEM REQUESTED: A tube of red lipstick labelled 102 Sweet Dreams.
ITEM PROPERTIES: It appears to be an unassuming bit of makeup but the lipstick formula contains a sedative which requires skin-on-skin contact to activate. Being kissed by someone wearing this lipstick renders the target unconscious for several minutes (with no adverse side-effects other than general wooziness).
WHY IS THIS ITEM IMPORTANT TO YOUR CHARACTER? Peggy calls this lipstick "her brand," formulated by her and Howard Stark, and it's something she keeps in her ~~arsenal~~ purse throughout both seasons of the show. She's used it to temporarily knock out security guards and marks during missions. (It was also once stolen from her vanity and used on Peggy herself by a Russian assassin.) In short, it's one of her trademark colours and weapons.

ITEM PROPERTIES: Zidian is a ring that can transform itself into a whip. Its canon properties are lightning-like spiritual energy and the ability to separate the souls from bodies should they be possessed by ( evil ? ) spirits, but I'm ok with it being a normal ring. If he could have the transform-into-a-whip ability as well it would be so awesome!!!
WHY IS THIS ITEM IMPORTANT TO YOUR CHARACTER? it is a ring left by his now dead mother and acts as a memento of her.

ITEM REQUESTED: The Lasso of Hestia.
ITEM PROPERTIES: The Lasso of Hestia is an enchanted item created by the goddess Hestia. When idle, the lasso looks like a normal ~20' length of rope with a slight golden glow around it. When in action, the lasso glows brightly.

The lasso's magical ability is that it compels anyone touching it to tell the truth (as they see it). This can mean the truth to a simple question (i.e. What is your name?) or the truth of their heart (i.e. poor Arthur). Trying to resist the compulsion of the Lasso makes it heat up, and it will continue to do so until the truth is spoken. On the flip side, if someone is already prone to telling the truth, or plans to while touching it, it'll just be an ordinary glowing rope, no burning to speak of.
WHY IS THIS ITEM IMPORTANT TO YOUR CHARACTER? This was one of the many items gifted to the Amazons by the gods, and Diana straight up stole it when she ran away from Themyscira to fight in WWI, knowing its value as both a defensive and offensive weapon. It's a piece of her home, her heritage, and the only item she treasures above it is Antiope's battle tiara. She's had it with her for the past 100 years, wielding it on the battlefield to save countless lives. It's not only a symbol of her sacred duty to protect mankind, but also a reminder of the power the truth can hold.

ITEM REQUESTED: Yamato
ITEM PROPERTIES: Yamato is a katana imbued with demonic power; very sharp, so much that it can cut through the fabric of space itself if wielded correctly, therefore creating “portals” that can be used for quick travel. It is able to separate or divide forces from each other. Obviously, V will not be able to use Yamato with very much efficacy at all, so at best it’ll just be a very sharp sword for him, and it’s unlikely anyone else would be able to utilize its full potential. (I’m fine with nerfing aspects of this sword if needed, anyway.)
WHY IS THIS ITEM IMPORTANT TO YOUR CHARACTER? This is the trademark sword belonging to Vergil, V’s original form. It’s a keepsake given to him by his father and he always keeps it close. It also was the item that split Vergil into a human and demon half, thus creating V. Also, from an OOC standpoint, the idea of him possessing this sword and barely being able to use it is just plain amusing.

ITEM PROPERTIES: The visor's main purpose is that it can activate an auto-aim function. For the most part Jack doesn't need this, but he does make use of it in situations with multiple targets, etc. I usually assume that it has other scanning functions such as thermal vision.
WHY IS THIS ITEM IMPORTANT TO YOUR CHARACTER? As Soldier: 76, Jack can almost always be found wearing this visor. On top of the tactical upsides, it also serves to hide most of his face, something he relied on often as a vigilante.

ITEM REQUESTED: Seven-League Boots
ITEM PROPERTIES: Loki's Seven-League Boots were stolen from the Light Elves of Alfheim, and have magical properties such as walking over impossible surfaces: glass, waterfalls, clouds, rainbows and the like. There's some more information here on the wiki. He also can stand on clotheslines but that doesn't stop him from falling in trash cans.
WHY IS THIS ITEM IMPORTANT TO YOUR CHARACTER? These are magical artifacts that Loki's stolen and kept on his person! He's used them frequently throughout the comics, and they're part of his signature Agent of Asgard look.

ITEM PROPERTIES: According to the wiki: A gun made for tackling moving targets. Allows the wielder to destroy appendages with greater ease. It has an attack of 32, +80% breakage on body parts/appendages. ...it's really just a gun without any kind of magical properties, at the end of the day.
WHY IS THIS ITEM IMPORTANT TO YOUR CHARACTER? It's Prompto's main weapon of choice in the game, and it's the one he sets off with from Insomnia and into the later events of the games. Could even say that it's his Crownsguard weapon, given to him when he joined the royal retinue, so it holds real emotional value for him, outside of battles.

CURRENT CANON POINT: Infinity War, pre crashing on Titan.
UPDATED CANON POINT: Post-Endgame.
BACKGROUND: Here, from "Encountering the Guardians".
HOW WILL THIS IMPACT YOUR CHARACTER? Although he's technically only aged by no more than a week, Stephen did an awful lot in the span of less than 24 hours of his own experienced time. Watching through 14 million or so futures and successfully steering the players towards their correct marks on stage takes its toll, especially when the cost of this facilitation is so high. First half of the universe (including himself) had to die, then the other half had to live. Then more sacrifices.

Stephen now knows what it is both to wield unfathomable power to its fullest extent and to use that power to play god. The decisions he made put lives on the line in the hugest of ways, and he had to make calls that judged the worth of a few lives against the many. His choices robbed billions of families across the universe of their loved ones, placed desperate hope in the ability and willingness of a small group of unruly people to restore them, and relied heavily upon people choosing to die.

He made those choices, kept those silences, brought an army of supers together, watched lives end in the resulting battle, and ultimately gave the signal that put Stark to his death.

He understands now the choices the Ancient One had to make, the sheer scale of that role. Whereas before his sacrifices have been his own, he now understands what it is to need to approach impossible tasks with calm, objective rationality, having faith in others to be willing to do the same. Doing whatever it takes in pursuit of the best possible outcome.

On return, he'll be calmer. More centered, less prone to public argument, less likely to overestimate his own expertise in areas where it's limited and more than anything less constantly scattered by the underlying desperation to get back. Not only will he have the personal experience of going home and coming back and the knowledge it brings of life waiting for you while you're here, he'll also no longer have Thanos hanging over his head. The world he left behind this time is safe from the great threat that had been looming. This will give him greater focus on the problems at hand and the ability to approach any issues that arise from a place of rationality. Less hasty, happier to apply himself in whichever ways he'll be of most use to the people here, rather than having half a thought on the people back home.

It'll be like he's gone on a 5 year retreat and come back enlightened except actually he went to space for a few hours, died, woke up, fought a battle, went to a funeral, and slid back into NA a week (and technically 5 years) later more chill and grown than he's ever been in his life.

Not a lot of physical changes except that his hair and beard are at last Exactly how he likes them.
