Hi Tifa!

In these cases, they would apply for a legal name change. If someone has their legal name changed, they would still have that ID connected to all of their records. The government would recognize them by their new legal name rather than their old one. This is because someone would still have the same "ID" in the government's system. Think of it like today's social security numbers - a trans character would have a new name and identifying gender (if they so choose! non-binary is equally acceptable in Meadowlark's world), but the same identifying numbers within the UN's system.

This differs from what we've mentioned before, because this is above board and in line with the government. We were referring to characters trying to go off the grid with a new identity. Illegal name changes involve a lot of heavy lifting on the part of the character, and they're extremely expensive. The expense is because of the digital nature of the world and precisely how much work has to go into it.

So, in short: no, no one needs to do it the illegal way!

As an additional note: any trans-related surgeries would be covered under the world's free health care!
