All characters will choose a name for their network identification at the beginning of their intake process. If a character wishes to go by an alias, that's fine - they will just need to have a first name and a surname. Morningstar will be setting up all of the characters with fake IDs so that they can function in this world and move freely, and this chosen first and last name will be permanent.
If a character doesn't have a surname in their canon, their players will have to come up with one in game. If a character wishes to forge a new ID, they will need in-game contacts and resources to pull this off, as it's a rigorous process to overwrite the neural implant.
Finally, thanks for bringing this to our attention, anon! This was an oversight on our parts and we'll be updating the FAQ shortly to reflect this answer.
