That should be fine! However, the only concern that we have is that we won't be able to contact the applicant directly. Our confirmation messages aren't unscreened, so there would be no way for us to reach the applicant unless it's posted with their journal. We leave revision notices and questions for applicants screened, as well.
Do you think that the application could be posted with that person's journal using a temporary password? (Assuming, of course, this isn't you.) We could also temporarily unscreen the receipt notice as an alternative, and provide all feedback to that reply. We're not sure of the time constraints here (for instance, if the applicant would be unavailable until after apps are reviewed).
For whatever it's worth, we've never had a flood of applications fill up right away! We're not really a lightning round sort of game. We also still have a couple more drops to process, so we're actually at 6 slots open, if that helps.
