DREAMSCAPES
As a result of both our March 2019 event and later our August 2019 event, characters are now able to share dreams in game.
Currently, these dreams will not involve World Changes as described in the March event post—if you're interested in having your character train and thus proceed to impact the world, please reach out to us on our Plot Engagement post.
> STANDARD DREAMS
These types of dreams are your more run-of-the-mill dreams. They're unlikely to be expansive, and are less of a wide look inside of a character's subconscious. Think of your usual DWRP fare here: characters meet in a dream, there is some dream logic, and their level of control may be dependent on whether they have experience with lucid dreaming or in manipulating their own subconscious.
◉ Multiple characters can meet in a single dream.
◉ The empathy bond and in-game powers will work here. If someone hopes to train their power in a safe place, dreams may be a good outlet for that.
◉ Characters can decide if they want to remove someone from their dream.
◉ Injuries in your standard-fare dreams do not carry over into reality!
◉ Characters are, by default, lucid in these dreams. However, their control depends upon player comfort. Please keep lanes of communication open!
◉ Characters cannot live out an entire life in a dream. No one can sleep longer than the standard amount and if they're asleep for too long, they will wake up.
◉ Characters can get up to business of a NSFW nature in the dreams. However, we ask that it be initiated within the dream itself rather than be something in media res, so to speak. Make sure to use proper warnings.
◉ These dreams can be used as a means of trying to connect with the outside world. Much of this is dependent upon location. Please reach out to us if you think your character is sleeping in an interesting location on our Plot Engagement page.
> THE PERSONAL DREAMSCAPE
Dreamscapes are extremely malleable and extremely static depending on player choices. How malleable anyone's dreamscape is depends on the character's player. How different players interact with other characters or objects in the dreams can impact the character once they wake, but this is ultimately up to the player themselves. These dreams can be as simple as moving pictures, putting someone's memories on display for someone to interact with or view, while other dreams can be highly metaphorical without making a lot of sense. Since they're dreams, they don't necessarily have to play by any rules.
For good examples of how these dreams work: Persona 4 and 5's dungeons are fantastic examples, but dreams do not have to be dungeons. Inception is another great example: people enter someone's dream, and that dream can either be a single level or multiple levels.
The primary focuses of the dreamscapes are malleability and character introspection, but no one is required to have their character changed because of how people interact with their dreams. These dreams can range between any number of things. For instance, a character who treats life like a game may find that their entire dreamscape is a giant chessboard or that they're 8-bit inside of a video game. Characters who are more literal and logical may simply be represented by the harsh realities of their world. Then again, it may be fun to take that harsh reality and turn it into a video game—there are no limitations on creativity here.
◉ These dreams are dependent on player choice, and can be crafted to be the same experience for all or unique to players themselves. If someone wants the dream to be more like a dungeon, that's up to them.
◉ Characters can also have joint dreams. There can also be three or four characters in one—that's ultimately up to you!
◉ How the dream is "run" is up to the players themselves—their character can be there, acting as a Vergil-like guide, or you can write flavor text and guide someone through a dreamscape. It can even be as simple as two characters realizing they're experiencing a lucid dream and soon realize that it's specific to one of them.
◉ Characters can impact their own dream if a player chooses. They can find something they don't like about themselves and try to change it, or even erase it from their consciousness. How much this actually works will be up to the player, of course! However, whatever is causing these dreams won't allow characters to change their core identity and belief system.
◉ Characters will only have access to their Meadowlark powers in these dreamscapes. However, you can feel free to explore the different branches of your character's power within these spheres, especially to explore what you think might be more interesting.
◉ Injury and death will not carry over into the real world.
◉ Dreamscapes will happen on individually posted logs.
